I feel that my experiences at Nevada State College provided me with the knowledge to be an effective teacher.

I was confident and prepared to enter any classroom and begin teaching. I felt confident to teach reading, writing, and progress monitor students. I wish that NSC had provided more hands on experience with specific math curriculums. I struggled with taking over math in my student teaching classroom because I was not as comfortable with math curriculum. I overcame this hurdle by letting my cooperating teacher know that I was hesitant to teach math. After exposure to the curriculum, observing my cooperating teacher, and exploring resources, I was prepared to accept the challenge. Another challenge that I faced was technology. I was unfamiliar with Encore, Pathlore, Interact, and recording AIMSweb scores. Through asking my cooperating teachers questions, I have become more comfortable with technology. However, I still have much to learn! I would like NSC to provide future students with more hands on experience in using these technology components so that they can feel prepared to work with these resources. I plan to continue educating myself in technology by taking training offered through CCSD and seeking an endorsement in technology at NSC. The most important lesson that I learned through my student teaching experience is the importance of questions, seeking resources, uses other educators as resources, and the necessity of continuing my education. Through student teaching I have met many teachers who are willing to offer advice and resources. I have also decided to seek a Masters Degree as soon as possible. I have always believed that we are all lifelong learners. My student teaching experience has reinforced this!
