Marriage is gradually going out of fashion. INTRODUCTION (A VERY ENERA!

O"ENIN INTRODUCIN T#E MAIN TO"IC IDEA$ The exchange of wedding vows in church in front of family and friends is arguably one of the most important, and certainly most memorable, moments in a persons life. Almost certainly the institution of marriage has changed over the years, however, many still favour the commitment and security that it brings. On the other hand, there are those who consider it dated and unrealistic given the number of people who cohabit prior to marriage as well as the ever-increasing divorce rate. A wedding day is, we are told, the thing that every little girl dreams of her whole life, many spending years and years imaging that special day. Certainly, there are those who are very traditional and loo forward to their wedding and subse!uent marriage and relish the security, love and commitment that it brings. "oreover, regardless of peoples personal beliefs, it seems that a wedding is something that still brings people together. #f we consider last years wedding of the $u e and $uchess of Cambridge, one cannot fail to see how the whole country was brought together to celebrate the %oining of two people in a very traditional wedding ceremony, emphasising the high regard in which marriage is still held. Today, however, many young people decide to live together before getting married which, of course, was virtually unheard of in the past. &hether this is done for personal or practical reasons is irrelevant, what is important is that it is increasing. The noc -on effect of this phenomenon is that many then choose not to get married as they perhaps feel it is no longer necessary, after all, they have all the advantages of a marriage without the cost of a ceremony, which is arguably another very pressing reason for not getting married given the current economic crisis. Another very significant reason is the high divorce rate, which is statistically getting higher every year. $ivorce is now easier and more accepted by society than ever and as a result the institution loses some of its value. &e read every day of celebrities who thin nothing of getting married and divorced repeatedly and this, in turn, has filtered into society in general.
