Leia o seguinte texto e responda os seguintes itens abaixo: WHAT IS A COMPUTER? 1A computer is a machine with a complicated network of electronic circuits using very 2high integration. It s capable of storing millions of data and performing up to billions 3of operations in one second, from the simplest comparison between two numbers to 4the most complicated and powerful string manipulation. 5This work is performed at incredible speed, following technological improvements. In 6only a short time, the computer has changed the way in which many kinds of jobs 7are done. However, it is not able to think, it accepts data and instructions as input, 8and after processing them, it outputs the 10 results. 9A computer is not merely a machine but a system. So in Data Processing Center 10(D.P.C.) we have to consider three parts: the hardware or central processor and 11peripheral equipment, the software or programs and the live ware or the technical 12people, including the staff. The hardware consists of several units: the central 13processor, the input/output processors (I/O), data communication processors 14(DCOM), all of them with one or several units and many combinations. 15Attached to the I/O processors is the peripheral equipment: attached to the DCOM 16are the teleprocessing lines, adapters, modems and terminal, or another computer 17alone or networking with another host system. The software is the collection of 18man-written solutions and specific instructions needed to solve problems with a 19computer, as well as all documents needed to guide the operation of a computer, 20that is, manuals, programs, flowcharts, etc. 21The live ware basically consists of systems analysts, the programmers, operators 22and technical managers, including supervisors, networking and data 23base administrator EXERCISE 1.
