2.6 Displaying Help Information

In any command mode, you can use the command help to get information about the help system. In any command mode, entering ? after the CLI prompt will display the current command mode, as well as all commands and system commands in the mode. Entering ? after an incomplete key word, you can get help information about the command word. Entering ? after a complete key word, you can obtain the brief help information and parameters of the current command.

MA5605#help Help may be requested at any point in a command by entering a question mark '?'.If nothing matches, the help list may be empty.

Two styles of help are provided: 1. Full help is available when you are ready to enter a command argument ( e.g. 'show ?' ) and then all the possible argument will show up. 2. Partial help is provided when an abbreviated argument is entered and you want to know which arguments match

the input ( e.g. 'show p?' ).

2.7 Setting Help Mode

By enabling/disabling the help mode, you can determine whether the command entered must be re-displayed or not after the on-line help is given.

If the CLI help mode is enabled through the command help-mode, after you enter a command and ?, the system displays help information on the command first, then the command, and then it waits for more execution.
MA5605>help-mode Help mode function is already enabled. MA5605>terminal ? ----------------------------------------------Mode [System Mode], Next Command Word ----------------------------------------------language MA5605>terminal Switch language between English and Chinese

The above example shows that the system redisplays the command already entered after the help information is given when the help mode is enabled.

If the CLI help mode is disabled through the command no help-mode, after you enter a command and ?, the system only displays the help information on the command.

2.8 Setting and Displaying System Time

You can run the command show time to view system time. If the system time is not correct, the Administrator can modify it using the command time. The new system time takes effect immediately after it is modified. The time format is hh:mm:ss yyyy/mm/dd/, representing hour:minute:second year/month/day. In the process of setting, the system will check the validity of the system time and invalidate all illegal settings. The system time will not change if you do not enter a parameter in correct format.
MA5605#time [<time[hh:mm:ss]>]:14:28:54 [<date[yyyy/mm/dd]>]:2005/04/08 set successfully.

2.9 Modifying System Name

To modify the name of the system, run the command hostname. It is recommended that you adopt a meaningful name for the system, such as a site name.
MA5605(config)#hostname <name>(S[49]):huawei >Are you sure to modify system name? ( y/n ) [n]:y Set successfully. huawei(config)#

2.10 Enabling/Disabling Timeout Exit of Terminal

To disable timeout exit, run the command no exec-timeout. However, the command is ineffective for a Telnet user, as shown in the example below.
MA5605#no exec-timeout Failure: This command is not useful for Telnet console.

2.11 Setting Baud Rate of the Serial Port

Caution:

Only the serial port user is authorized to perform such operation. A Telnet user cannot perform the operation. Upon settings of the baud rate of the serial port, you need to set the baud rate of the configuration terminal (such as HyperTerminal) in time.

You can run the command baudrate to set the baud rate of the serial port. When the Xmodem connection is set up initially, the default baud rate is 9600 bit/s.
MA5605#baudrate <baudRate>{9600,19200,38400,57600}[9600]:19200 Please change terminal baud rate and try to connect again...

2.12 Testing Network Connectivity

The MA5605 offers two commands for connectivity test: ping and tracert.

I. ping
This command is used to check network connectivity and host reachability. The example below shows how to ping the IP address of the opposite host.
MA5605#ping 10.11.104.1 [-c]: [-t]: [-s]: Ping 10.11.104.1: 56 data bytes, press CTRL_C to break

Chapter 2 Getting Started with CLI

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 3ms, Maximum = 4ms, Average = 4ms

II. tracert
This command tracert is used to test the gateways passed by packets sent from local host to the destination host, so as to check the network connection status and locate the faults in the network. The process of a tracert test is as follows: 1) 2) An IP packet is sent with Time To Live (TTL) of 1 to the destination. The first host which receives the packet subtracts 1 from its TTL value and then discards the packet. Meanwhile, it sends back a timeout Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP packet). The location of the first route in the path is thus determined. 3) 4) The second packet is sent with TTL value of 2. The location of the second host is determined in the same way as mentioned above. The same process continues until the destination is located. The TTL value is less than 254. The example below shows how to trace the route to the host with the IP address of 10.11.104.1.
MA5605#tracert <host IP>:10.11.104.1 [-f]: [-m]: [-w]: TraceRoute to 10.11.104.1(10.11.104.1) 30 hops max,40 bytes packet Press CTRL_C to break 1 <1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.11.104.1

Chapter 4 User Management

This chapter introduces:

User Management Overview, on Page 4-1 User Management Commands, on Page 4-2 Adding/Deleting a User, on Page 4-3

4.1 User Management Overview

Definition A user here refers to the person who operates and maintains the MA5605 through the CLI. User management refers to setting of the authority, password, and Telnet permit for a user who logs in to the MA5605. User authorities Users are divided into three levels. Authorities vary with the levels. Users can only use configuration commands for their own level(s) or lower level(s).

General user A general user can only check the system information, and use certain commands, such as cls. Operator An operator can make some basic system configurations.

Administrator An administrator can manage the system. The root user is a super administrator, who can add or delete a user.

User attributes The attributes of a user include:

User name It consists of 119 characters. It is unique in the whole system.

Authority Log-in password It consists of 1119 characters.

Telnet permit

Huawei Technologies Proprietary 4-1

Operation Manual SmartAX MA5605 Multi-service Access Module

Chapter 4 User Management

User name and password Each user name is unique, and the password can be set by the user. When you log in to the MA5605, the system first checks whether the user name input matches the password you input, and then checks whether the user name you input is being used. If another user has logged in to the console with your user name, the system accepts or rejects your login request based on the maximum number of online users allowed for a user name. Access control To log in to the MA5605, you must enter a user name and a password. Moreover, the user name you input must match the password you input. If not, you will fail to log in. After logging in to the MA5605, you can only operate and maintain the MA5605 based on your authority.

Note:

The MA5605 allows up to one serial port user and two Telnet users to log in at one time. If there are two Telnet users already and you try to log in, you will fail to log in and see the prompt too many users.

5.2 Bandwidth Management Commands

Table 51 lists all bandwidth management commands. Table 51 Commands for bandwidth management To Configure bandwidth convergence ratio Display bandwidth Use bandwidth convergency show bandwidth In Global mode System mode

5.3 Setting Bandwidth Convergence Ratio

What is a bandwidth convergence ratio? In actual applications, not all users use their bandwidth at the same time. So, each user can be assigned a bandwidth larger than the average physical bandwidth. Then, this ratio of this assigned bandwidth to the average bandwidth is called a bandwidth convergence ratio. Suppose the physical bandwidth available for a community is 100 Mbit/s, and there are 10 users in the community who are allocated with 20 Mbit/s each. The total bandwidth allocated to users is 200 Mbit/s and the convergence ratio in this case is 2. Command for configuring a bandwidth convergence ratio You can run the command bandwidth convergency to set the bandwidth convergence ratio for a port.

Chapter 6 Traffic Management

Chapter 6 Traffic Management

This chapter introduces traffic management, including:

Overview, on Page 6-1 Traffic Management Commands, on Page 6-4 Setting Traffic Ranks, on Page 6-4 Displaying Traffic Ranks, on Page 6-5 Adding/Deleting a Traffic Table, on Page 6-6 Displaying Traffic Items, on Page 6-7

6.1 Overview
6.1.1 Traffic Control
The services the MA5605 supports correspond to different PVCs in the system. The MA5605 provides QoS guarantee for each PVC according to the traffic parameter (index of a traffic item) selected for traffic control. Also, the MA5605 prevents PVCs from violating traffic rules to offer services for users equally and effectively.

6.1.2 Service Types

The MA5605 supports four service types, including CBR, rt-VBR, nrt-VBR and UBR when the upstream board of the MA5605 is the MIMB, the MCOA, or the MCCA. The following describes the characteristics and applications of the four service types.

I. CBR service
Constant Bit Rate (CBR) is used for connections that require static bandwidth and top priority. CBR features high stability and low burst. Data services are delivered in fixed period. Typical applications of CBR services are circuit service, emulation voice service and video service. Peak cell rate (PCR) is the only parameter required for applying CBR service. Cells are delivered at the source end at the PCR rate or a rate below PCR.

II. rt-VBR service

Real-time Variable Bit Rate (rt-VBR) service is very sensitive to delay and jitter. Typical applications of rt-VBR are voice service and video service. Compared with CBR service, rt-VBR service allows a certain degree of delay. The data may be delivered at the source end at different rates. Parameters required for applying
Huawei Technologies Proprietary 6-1

Operation Manual SmartAX MA5605 Multi-service Access Module

Chapter 6 Traffic Management

rt-VBR service include PCR, sustainable cell rate (SCR), maximum burst size (MBS), and cell delay variation tolerance (CDVT).

III. nrt-VBR service

Non-real-time Variable Bit Rate (nrt-VBR) is used for connections in which there is no fixed timing relationship between samples. Compared with rt-VBR, nrt-VBR has lower priority than rt-VBR. Parameters required for service application include PCR, SCR, MBS and CDVT.

IV. UBR service

Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR) is used for services with high burst and without real-time requirement. UBR users only demand optimum network service, but require no guarantee on quality of service (QoS). The network offers no QoS guarantee for UBR service. In the case of network congestion, UBR cells are the first to be discarded. Error correction is implemented by the upper layer protocols. Typical applications of UBR service are FTP and E-mail.

6.1.3 Traffic Table

The traffic table is the core of traffic management. A traffic table contains such items as:

Index Service type Traffic type Traffic type parameters

You can add, delete and query a traffic table. Through traffic items assigned to source and destination ends of a PVC, you can control PVC traffic. Before setting up a service PVC, make sure that a qualified traffic item exists. If such a traffic item exists, you can specify its index directly to set up the service PVC. If such a traffic item does not exist, you need to add a table item. The index of this table item is assigned by the system.

6.1.4 Traffic Types

MA5605 supports four service types, corresponding to 13 traffic types, which comply with RFC2514. You need to set parameters based on the traffic types. Table 61 lists the traffic type and related parameters for the four service types.

6.1.5 Traffic Ranks

The CBR and rt-VBR services the MA5605 provides supports traffic shaping. For rt-VBR service, traffic shaping is optional according to actual needs. To boost cell processing efficiency, the MA5605 provides 32 traffic ranks for:

The parameter CLP01PCR of CBR The parameter SCR (CPL01SCR or CLP0SCR) of rt-VBR (with traffic shaping)

Select one out of the 32 traffic ranks for each of the above two parameters.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary 6-3

Operation Manual SmartAX MA5605 Multi-service Access Module

Chapter 6 Traffic Management

The MA5605 also provides 16 traffic ranks for the parameter SCR (CPL01SCR or CLP0SCR) of rt-VBR (with no traffic shaping). Select one out of the 16 traffic ranks for the parameter.

6.1.6 Traffic Control Principles

Traffic control is not local on a certain device, but global in the whole network. The Traffic control on the MA5605, a device in the access layer, can reduce traffic burst and stabilize traffic. Follow these principles for traffic control:

Control traffic at the access end, and monitor traffic at the convergence end. Control traffic where traffic is converged or traffic congestion is likely to happen. Control traffic control near the source end. Control traffic where a switching node is placed. Control traffic for each node where end-to-end QoS must be ensured. Control traffic at any node in a PVC because the PVC bandwidth is determined by the minimum SCR of a node among all nodes of the PVC. For the services going through multiple switching modes, user bandwidth is determined by the minimum SCR of a node among all nodes.

6.2 Traffic Management Commands

Table 62 lists all traffic management commands. Table 62 Traffic management commands To Set a traffic rank Display a traffic rank Add/Delete a traffic item Display traffic items rank show rank (no) traffic show traffic Use In Global mode Global mode Global mode. Global mode

6.3 Setting Traffic Ranks

You can run the command rank to modify the current traffic rank.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary 6-4

Operation Manual SmartAX MA5605 Multi-service Access Module

Chapter 6 Traffic Management

It is recommended that you use the default values for the CBR traffic rank table and the rt-VBR rank table. Although you can modify a value in a traffic rank table which is not used, modify it only when the default rank cannot meet your demand. Make a comprehensive planning in advance for the overall traffic ranks in the system to avoid frequent changes in the future.

Note:

Make sure that the reference count of a traffic rank to be modified is 0 (namely, the traffic rank to be modified is not in use). If a rank after modification is the same as one already in the rank table, the modification will fail.

6.4 Displaying Traffic Ranks

You can run the command show rank to display the traffic ranks in the CBR and rt-VBR traffic rank tables as well as their reference count.

6.5 Adding/Deleting a Traffic Table

6.5.1 Adding a Traffic Item
You can run the command traffic to add a traffic item. If the table item is added successfully, the system will display the Traffic Identifier (TID), by which you can reference or delete the traffic item. The example below shows how to add a traffic item for CBR. In this example, the PCR is set to 50 kbit/s. However, since there is no such value in this table, the system adjusts the PCR to 64 kbit/s.
MA5605(config)#traffic {cbr,rt-vbr,nrt-vbr,ubr}:cbr {NoClpNoScr,NoClpNoScrCdvt,ClpTransparentNoScr}:clpTransparentNoScr {pcr}:pcr <rate>{0-16000}:50 [cdvt]:cdvt <cdvtval>{0-26738680}:10000000 [epd]:epd <epd>{on,off}:on [ppd]:ppd <ppd>{on,off}:on [<index>]{5-50}:6 Attention: System has adjusted 50 to 64 <kbps>. Add traffic item successfully, TID = 6.

Note:

If the service type of a traffic item to be added is CBR, select the CLP01PCR and CLP0PCR values of the item from the CBR traffic rank table. Similarly, you shall select the values for CLP01SCR and CLP0SCR of rt-VBR service from the rt-VBR traffic rank table.

You can set neither two identical traffic ranks nor two identical traffic items in a traffic rank table. The system supports up to 50 traffic items.

Chapter 7 PVC Configuration

Chapter 7 PVC Configuration

7.1 Overview
The MA5605 supports three types of PVCs:

xDSL (ADSL/ADSL2+/SHDSL)-ATM xDSL (ADSL/ADSL2+/SHDSL)-LAN NMS-ATM, that is, NMS PVC in ATM mode

7.2 PVC Configuration Commands

Table 71 lists PVC configuration commands. Table 71 PVC configuration commands To Add/Delete a PVC Display a PVC (no) pvc show pvc Use In Global mode Global mode

Note:

Because the ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+/SHDSL side is generally connected with a Modem, it is recommended that you adopt 0/35 for the VPI/VC value at the ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+/SHDSL side.

The VPI/VCI is unique for each PVC on a port. The connection parameters of a port must be consistent with those of the connected port on the upper-layer device. For an IMA or 155 Mbit/s ATM upstream port, the VPI/VCI of the PVC on this port must be the same as that on the connected port on the upper-layer device. For an FE upstream port, the VLAN must be the same as that of the FE port at the peer end.

7.3 Configuring a PVC in ATM Mode

When configured with an MIMB, MCOA or MMCA board as its upstream board, the MA5605 supports PVCs from xDSL ports to ATM ports In ATM mode, the system supports up to 256 service PVCs and one inband NMS PVC. Each xDSL port supports up to four PVCs.
Huawei Technologies Proprietary 7-1

Operation Manual SmartAX MA5605 Multi-service Access Module

Chapter 7 PVC Configuration

In ATM mode, PVCs support flow control.

7.3.1 Configuration Procedure

1) Configure traffic type. When configuring a PVC, select your desired traffic index to control PVC traffic. For detailed configuration procedure, refer to Chapter 6 Traffic Management. 2) Configure a PVC. You can run the command pvc and enter the keyword nms to set up an NMS PVC. The protocol can be 1483B or IPoA.

When using 1483B, you can configure the VPI/VCI on the ATM port only. When using IPoA protocol, you need to configure the VPI/VCI on the ATM port as well as the IP address of the peer node. You can run the command pvc and enter the keyword adsl or shdsl to set up an xDSL-ATM service PVC.

Note:

To configure a PVC, you first need to determine the source frame No., slot No., port No. as well as destination frame No., slot No. and frame No. Because the MIMB board is based on an IMA group, configure the IMA group before configuring the NMS PVC. Parameter portId corresponds the IMA group No., not the port No. For how to configure an IMA group, refer to Chapter 10 Configuring an IMA Board in the next part Service Configuration.

A PVC is identified by its VPI/VCI. VPIs/VCIs of PVCs on different ports can be the same, but those on one port must be different.

3)

Query PVC information. You can run the command show pvc to query the information on a PVC, PVCs of a slot, PVCs of a port, the NMS PVC or all PVCs.

7.3.2 Configuration Example

Networking data

The MA5605 is connected with the upper layer MA5100 through the MCCA board. The NMS PVC at the MA5605 side is connected to port 1, with VPI/VCI of 4/220. The PVC on port 0/1/1 on the ADSL board is connected to port 1 on the MCCA board. The NMS protocol of the MA5605 is 1483B.
