YEAR 10 FORMAL
On Thursday 14th November, 73 year 10 students celebrated completing their classes by dressing up and dancing away the night at The Black Tie. Students went to a lot of trouble to get themselves ready for the night and they all looked fantastic. The venue was great. Thanks to the staff for making us feel so comfortable. There was nice food, some quick speeches, awards and prizes to get things rolling. Then time to start the music. Some students were up on the dance oor nonstop for the whole night and there were lots of people up dancing at all times. All too early it was time for students to be picked up and head home to prepare for the next day at school! Thanks to our Formal Committee and Pat and Jai who did photography and music. Also a big thank you to our Year 10 teachers who all attended, even though the music may not have been what they would have picked!

ASSISTANT pRINCIPAL'S rEPORT

Term 4, no doubt the busiest term of the year! We are having an extremely eventful term this year. The Year 8s are on camp at the Prom, Year 10, 11 and 12 students have completed their exams, Headstart has begun, and Years 7-9 begin their exams on Monday 2 December and conclude them on Monday 9 December. Afterwards they complete a number of transition type activities/celebrations and the school term nishes with Activity Days. Meanwhile, teachers are frantically assessing student work, writing reports and running Headstart Activities. Students are tirelessly nishing work, submitting it and thinking about their holidays! I would like to take this opportunity to remind students to commit all their energy towards completing their exams. The information we collate on student learning is used to measure how much individuals have grown in their learning. We also use this information to inform our

teaching programs. A good example of this is if the data tells us that the majority of students already know how to do something, then we only focus on teaching that skill to those who dont know. For this reason, it is vitally important that all students sit their exams and do their best. On a personal note, I will be taking a years leave in 2014. Some students, staff and parents may be aware that I have published a number of young adult novels. The opportunity has arisen for me to focus on my writing both as a writer and as a freelance editor. I am also excited about spending more time with my family. My work can be viewed at www.vayadauphin.com Although I will miss the staff and students at Warragul Regional College, this is an exciting venture and one too good to pass up, as well as a great chance to build my skills as a writer. I often tell the students, good writing only improves with practise! Have a wonderful Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Vaya Cross Assistant Principal

music news
On Thursday 14th of November Nicholas Clark was given the opportunity to perform at Federation Square with Mr Birchall. The gig was for a CD launch of a local Melbourne song writer named Taso and the support band was highly praised by the companies producer. Nick was highly enthusiastic and professional, learning 5 songs in 2 nights, performing admirably to the masses (they even called out his name). In other music news: On Monday the 9th of December selected students will perform to local primary schools. Then on Thursday 12th December students will have the opportunity to attend a recording day at school. Our annual music concert will follow that evening and a busking day trip to Melbourne the following Friday. The weekend of the 14th and 15th of December will be a recording weekend for years 10-12 with a possible sleepover in the music room. Exciting times ahead and we look forward to celebrating with the community on the 12th of December for concert night.

Japanese & Indonesian booKlist update

Language Perfect on booklist for Japanese and Indonesian
This is a new item on the booklist in 2014. Having access to Language Perfect will allow students to remember vocabulary more quickly and as a result improve their writing, reading, speaking and listening skills. We will be using LP in class and setting it as homework, but students can work on it whenever they get the chance. Please make sure you tick the Language Perfect box under Indonesian or Japanese on the booklist. This will mean that your student will be ready to learn at the beginning of the year. If you dont pay for LP with the booklist, you will need to organise online payment with Landmark next year.
