Platinum Gazettes new fax machine just unpacked from a sealed box after buying it from a large reputable store in Burgersfort on Wednesday (the old one was obliterated by lightning on Tuesday evening). Returning it to the store for a really new one, it was too much trouble for them to get one from Polokwane (no more stock in Burgersfort, see). We took our money and will now buy at another shop in another town.

Traffic trouble in town - what can be done?

The festive season is coming closer and traffic pressure on the roads in Burgersfort is steadily increasing. The traffic chaos is enhanced by drivers disregarding the law by speeding, not stopping at red lights and stop streets and other transgressions. We asked readers what they think would be the solution to this problem in town.

Mr Frans Mogofe said: They must put in cameras to control the traffic.

Ms Nhlanhla Maponya said: Yes, this road is terrible, they must put in speed humps. If there are speed humps you cant run. With her is Letago.

Mr Lucky Moganedi said: The traffic! In this municipality they must make more parking. The traffic cops must be pointsmen at the Spar crossing because people just go over.

Me. By haar is Andrew en Jacques.

Mr TM Mthenjane (right) said: Enough traffic officers must be employed. They must also be at every robot in town. They should also be checking licences because people drive without it. These people then dont know the rules and regualtions and they cause accidents. Christians must also pray for those using this road. With him is Mr Charles Selahle. Mr Makaleng Mafane said: Speed humps is the answer and they must also put a robot at the Bothashoek cross. People will then drive better.

Mr NA Makofane said: This road needs to be upgraded. The best solution would be a 3 lane road from here in town to Polokwane. The drivers here are irresponsible. The traffic cops must be visible on this road all the time.

Mr Clifford Mgiba said: The traffic is a problem because there are too many mine vehicles on the road. They should be banned. The mines can make their own roads for their people and vehicles to travel on. They make it congested in the mornings and afternoons.

Mr Dennis Komane said: The walls between the lanes in town must go all the way to the robots. The people should not be able to cross from Boxer to Capitec in central town. They must be forced to use the bridge at Castle House. Speed humps will slow things down too much and the traffic is often already slow. They must also build an alternative road to Steelpoort. You see accidents every week.

Mnr.

Mr Prince Mongadi said: The traffic is too much. They must make 4 lanes out of town on the R37, They must also start using speed traps in town. Mr Michael Mpasi said: Reckless driving is the cause of the accidents. Perhaps they can put in speed humps past the Mall and start enforcing the law at traffic lights.

Me. Verkeersbeamptes moet hul werk doen. Mr Phethego Mokgethwa and Mr Percy Phahlane said: Taxi drivers must be more careful. They must take care of people. Traffic cops must arrest those who dont obey the law, not just fine them.

Mr TN Mohlala said: We always see accidents when it is raining. This road is the only way out of town. The people with these little taxis also cause trouble. They just stop anywhere and make illegal turns in front of oncoming traffic. Alternative exit roads is the only solution. There must be an alternative from the new Mall. It is just a problem this traffic.

Mr Justice Malepe said: Maybe they must make speed humps. It will also be good if the traffic cops can be around and not only at month-end.
