Faded Elegance: Photographs of Havana by Michael Eastman

patterns on the exteriors of buildings, stairwells and interiors of homes along Ambassador Way. The photographs explore Havanas harsh economic situation while capturing the changing cultural landscape. Faded Elegance is the first exhibition to take a closer look at the depth and range of these Havana photographs from Eastman. Another exhibition that offers cultural influence is Miradas, featuring works from the Bank of America Collection. The exhibition examines work from Mexican and Mexican American artists such as Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Robert Graham and Graciela Iturbide. Cultural change from the Mexican Revolution to present day is displayed through paintings, prints and photographs. Artists demonstrate their understanding of contemporary regional politics and diverse heritages through the Miradas exhibition, running through Sept. 15, 2013. Walking through exhibitions is definitely fulfilling on its own, but one of the most unique parts of the Museums display at night isnt insideits Sky (Tampa), the 45foot high, 300-foot long programmable LED lights found on the exterior. The display is created with the lights set in two layers of perforated aluminum panels, illuminating beautiful movement of color and light. Artist and creator Leo Villareal created custom coded software to allow the luminous lights to flash, fade and trail. The spectacular light display may be viewed every evening beginning at dusk. AMENITIES AND PROGRAMS The annual Gasparilla International Film Festival, Global Lens Series takes place on the second Friday of each month at the Museum. Coming up on July 12 is Modest Reception from Mexican director Sebastin del Amo, followed by The Fantastic World of Juan Orol from Iranian director Mani Haghighi on Aug. 9. For those with children, the summer art camp takes place from June 17 through August 2. It is a great way for the little ones to learn about classical art traditions, explore contemporary concepts and to create some of their own works of art. EXHIBITIONS Two of the many exhibitions found at the Tampa Museum of Art are Faded Elegance: Photographs of Havana by Michael Eastman and Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern and Contemporary Mexican Art. Each represents cultural, political and economical change. Faded Elegance focuses on photographs of Havana, Cuba from more recent times, the oldest photograph from 1999 and most recent from 2010. Miradas offers a variety of displays with paintings and photographs, channeling change throughout the Mexican Revolution up until now. Faded Elegance is a collection of twenty-nine photographs in which the artist captured Cubas capital city by photographing a wide range of subjects. These include abstract

pencil, charcoal and paint. Students will also learn how to carve and work with mediums such as metal and clay. To learn more or get involved, register today on the Museums website. Walk on over to the Sono Caf to satisfy any appetite. The restaurant offers an admission-free experience for Museum visitors with a magnificent view overlooking the banks of the Hillsborough River. Sono Caf thrives on its Slow Food Movement, which focuses on creating quality food to be enjoyed in a soothing environment. The concept was founded in 1989 in Italy. It offers a break from the fast-moving day to enjoy a nice, relaxing bite to eat. The menu provides guests with an exquisite selection from Antipasti and wine to coffee and gelato. The restaurant offers a full lunch menu with weekly specials and Happy Hour throughout the week, and a full brunch la carte menu on weekends. OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM Not only does the Museum offer great art and food, but it also serves as a location for

weddings and events. The space includes the lobby atrium, an enclosed terrace that overlooks Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the Hillsborough River and minarets from the University of Tampa. For a break from all the planning, stay close in Downtown Tampa and hang out at the Curtis Waterfront Hixon Park. Rock the Park is a free music concert offered once every month with stadium-styled seating in the park. To relieve stress, Yoga in the Park takes place every Sunday evening at 6 p.m., welcoming all skill levels.
