Introduction . Attention Getter I. Do you do your own laundry? How much does laundry detergent cost? How many loads a week do you do? Reason to Listen: II. I do five loads a week. Jeans, towels, whites, darks, lights. . . Credibility Statement: III. I pay for my own college so Im always looking for new ways to save money, pinterest showed me how to make soap After I made the first batch I was excited and wanted to know exactly how much I was saving. Thesis: IV. First, I will inform every one of the prices and show how much you spend and how much you could save. Secondly I will explain how to make the laundry detergent and lastly I will answer any questions. Body I 1. If you go to Wal-Mart or go online to www.walmart.com you will find a 100fl oz. of Tide costs $11.97 and will give you 52 loads, 100 lf oz. of Gain costs $ 9.97 and lasts 64 loads, and 125 fl ox of Oxi Clean costs $7.88 and will last 70 loads. 2. 76 oz. of borax costs $3.38, %% oz. of arm and hammer super washing soda costs $3.24, Fels-Naptha costs $.97 a bar. II. 1. If you use a cup of borax thats $.16 1 cup of arm&hammer is $.48 and one bar of felsnaptha is $.97 a bar so in total thats $1.61 for 10 gallons of laundry detergent. 2. Top load machines use 5/8 of a cup, which lasts 180 loads, and front load machines use a cup that lasts 640 loads. If I do 5 loads a weeks 5 loads a week times 52 weeks is 260 loads a year for a little over $2. If you want to look at the even bigger picture 60 gallons of homemade soap costs $11.26, 60 gallons of tide costs $921.69, gain $767.69, Oxi clean $ 480.68.

III. 1. Now that all that talk of money has your attention lets talk about how to make this soap, grate the bar of soap and add it to 4 cups of boiling water, wait until it is fully dissolved, take a 5 gallon bucket and fill it half full of water, add a cup of borax, and 1 cup of arm and hammer then add your dissolved bar soap. Stir until everything is fully dissolved fill the rest of the bucket with hot water and let it sit over night in the morning the mixture will be thick and gel like. Pour the soap into your containers half way and then fill the second half of the container with water. Just shake before each use.

I. Conclusion Laundry detergent is a necessity, its a household staple, but its also a hidden expense that not many people are aware of. Now maybe you will be more aware of how much money you spend on laundry detergent, maybe you will even feel the need to get crafty and make your own soap.
