Pharmacy Technician
Work in retail pharmacy, hospital, pharmaceutical company or health maintenance organization. Coursework includes: Transcribing physicians orders Correct medication packaging Calculating doses Labeling prescriptions Preparing IVs Drug distribution systems (Includes CPR/1st Aid certification) This class provides passing students with a Certificate of Completion for Pharmacy Technician and prepares students to sit for the PTCB National exam, qualifying them to become licensed as a Pharmacy Technician ($129 fee). Students can also become licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of California without taking the exam by combining this course with an externship in a Pharmacy ($295, subject to eligibility). Exam pre-requisites: 18 yrs old; GED or HS Diploma; no felony convictions.

One of the fastest growing careers today! Our EMT program will prepare you for work with an ambulance service, in an emergency room or for work in a clinical setting as well as being a pre-requisite for firefighting or paramedic careers. Upon successful completion of course and final exam, students will receive EMT-1 Course Certificate of Completion and will then qualify to take the National Registry Exam which certifies students as EMT-1 in the State of California for a period of 2 years. Coursework includes: 150 hours of medical theory combined with practical skills and 20 hours of clinical experience including ride-alongs with emergency transport providers in the County of Ventura. The course includes a class in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS). Prerequisites for the EMT program: 18 years old; Livescan (fingerprinting); no misdemeanor or felony convictions; proof of immunization titers and TB test (given within the last 3 months). Both tests can be administered at the Waverly Wellness Center on campus. Details given in first class.

The Literacy Center provides one-on-one tutoring for adults who need help in basic literacy skills and/or math skills. We have two types of literacy program: one is suited to Englishas-a-second-language (ESL) students; the other is suited to English speakers who read and spell below expected level. The math program addresses basic math all the way to Pre-Algebra. Tutoring is offered by volunteers for two hours per week, days or evenings in the literacy center.
