ASTM F1554

Scope
The ASTM F1554 specification was introduced in 1994 and covers anchor bolts designed to anchor structural supports to concrete foundations. F1554 anchor bolts can take the for of either headed bolts! straight rods! or bent anchor bolts. The three grades "#! 55! and 1$5 designate the ini u %ield strength &ksi' of the anchor bolt. The bolts can be either cut or roll threaded and a weldable grade 55 can be substituted for grade "# at the supplier(s option. )olor coding on the end * "# blue! 55 %ellow! and 1$5 red + helps facilitate eas% identification in the field. ,er anent anufacturer and grade arking is allowed under the S- supple entar% re.uire ents. Applications for F1554 anchor bolts include colu ns in structural steel fra ed buildings! traffic signal and street lighting poles! and overhead highwa% sign structures to na e /ust a few.

Supplementary Testing
)harp% i pact testing can be re.uested as a supple entar% re.uire ent. Supple ental S4 designates i pact testing at 04$1F and is applicable to both grades 55 and 1$5. Supple ental S5 designates i pact testing at *-$1F and is applicable onl% to grade 1$5. 2n both cases the ini u v*notch energ% re.uire ent is an average of 15ft*lbs for three speci ens! with no one speci en falling below 1-ft*lbs.
