Proposal Jon A.

Fisher 23 October 2013

Executive Summary The United States Air Force is requiring more and more trained officers to lead its thousands of men and women. But the militarys high standards and low budgets have made the yearly Field Training selections even more difficult for cadets. By producing this manual, cadets will have access to a condensed resource of information that will aid them to succeed and excel while at Field Training. And in performing well, the cadets will have a better chance of being choses for an officers commission in the United States Air Force.

Introduction I would like to propose printing a manual that informs people (primarily Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets) on how they can be more overall prepared and ready to perform at a summer training exercise called Field Training. The manual will discuss various aspects of preparation, including: Air Force Academics Physical Training and Health Drill and Ceremonies Military Customs and Courtesies

Problem Description Although a majority of cadets can fully attend their Air Force classes and labs during their first two years of schooling, a small minority of cadets cannot. And even the cadets who regularly attend do not remember everything that they have been taught. This lack of knowledge works against them while they are at Field Training by lowering their evaluation scores, and possibly denying them a commission in the United States Air Force.

Proposed Solution

I propose to make a manual that will act as a study aid for cadets getting ready to go to Field Training. The manual will not give every piece of currently applicable Field Training information, but it will provide an essential foundation for the cadet. The manual will include sections regarding: A general description/overview of Field Training Studying Air Force Academics (Warrior Knowledge, Leadership, etc.) Military Customs and Courtesies (Greetings, Salutes, Flag Etiquette, etc.) Drill and Ceremonies (Military Marching Procedures) Staying Physically Fit (Training for the Physical Fitness Assessment conducted at Field Training)

Qualifications I am well qualified to write this manual because I am a cadet that graduated from Field Training over this summer. I also graduated in the top quartile of my unit while there, and understand small tips and tricks that can help any cadet perform well.

Budget The budget to create the manual will require binding and color printing, which are available in the TLC lab. And my time invested in the project is the equivalent cost. Over the next few weeks, this manual will require: Reading over related manuals and reference materials: 3 hours Interviews with other Field Training Graduates: 1 hour Organizing and Formatting the manual: 5-8 hours

Conclusion This manual will be an effective tool to inform cadets about the important aspects of Field Training and help them to become excellent officers in the United States Air Force. Since I have already graduated from Field training and still am active in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, I can create this manual with the cadets best interests in mind.
