Overhead, Sidebar and Belt Filter Presses Tefsa offers more than 30 years experience in dealing with filtration and dehydration challenges, resulting in more than 9000 references in industries worldwide. From its Headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, Tefsa studies, designs, develops and manufactures overhead, sidebar and belt filter presses. Its broad maufacturing program and ability to develop customized solutions have become Tefsa's key competitive advantages. The roots of the TEFSA-Group, Tcnicas de Filtracin S.A., were established in 1974 with the idea to study and solve any project related to filtration and dehydration. In this sense, TEFSA,Tcnicas de Filtracin S.A. has developed specialized projects for specific situations in these last 30 years. Abroad fabrication program, being one on of the main competitive advantages of the company, allows a selection of the optimal solution in each presented solid-liquid separation problem, offering the most adequate equipment with the most advanced technology and with the modern up dated design and construction.

Filter press helps reduce waste at leading brewery

October 22, 2012

Cervezas Damm, one of the leading breweries in Spain, reduced the ratio from residual moisture in earth to clarified beer from 90-80 %until 50 %at its factory in El Prat de Llobregat ( Barcelona). This effectively resulted in a 76 %reduction of the waste.

The Installation included a convenient double touch screen which allows for equipment status view from the main control room.

TEFSA(Tecnicas de Filtracin, S.A.) supplied one full automatic membrane filter press to the company Interquim Beniel. The unit is to be installed inside a cleanroom and to operate according the GMP rules; consequently, the unit has been manufactured with all necessary finishing protections. The automatic overhead filter press transport system, implies a clean and free operation side as the tension rods are placed at lower level, allowing an easier discharge, easier cleaning and improved maintenance processes, in addition to a complete automatic operation. The control panel, provided with a communication card, allows the equipment integration into the existing plant control system.

Filter presses: The Zinc application

August 15, 2012

With recent filter presses installed in Zinc plants in Spain, Mexico, Thailand, Bulgaria and Peru, Tefsa is proving to be one of the world's preferred suppliers for Zinc production. Read more as they share some basic process insights. The Neutral Lixiviation Stage is the starting point, where the roasted blend (calcine) is treated with cells acid (worked out electrolyte) and sulphuric acid, until reaching a neutralization at pH close to 5,0. Once this point has been reached, the process enters into a separation between two phases: Neutral overflow, which will be purified. Asolid (neutral residue), which will follow the treatment process in the Acid Lixiviation Stage. This operation (1 in the below overview) is carried out by thickeners.

The iron lye is subjected to a neutralization process to eliminate the iron, the so called Iron Precipitation Stage. This elimination can be carried out in different ways, most of the times as iron saline basic compounds or as iron oxide (jarosite, carfosiderite, geotite, hematites, etc), using as precipitation agent any product containing an alkaline cation (sodium, potassium, ammonium, etc) and a neutralizing agent (salt, soda, ammonium, or the roasted blend it). Once the iron has been precipitated, a new separation stage (3) will be carried out in the same way as the previous one (2), using an acid line thickeners and vacuum filters (belt type or drum type). In this phase the following is obtained: An iron residue which is sent to a storing place. Acid lye which is returned to the Neutral Leaching Stage. Left unused is the overflow of the neutral thickeners, from which a solution is prepared that afterwards, will be subject of electrolysis. In order to carry out this process, the overflow will be first send to a Purification Stage. In order to carry out this stage, zinc powder and different reactives (copper sulphate, arsenic trioxide or antimony, potasic antimoniate, etc) will be added to the overflow according on the selected method. There will be one or several stages, at low or high temperatures; at the end of each stage of the purification process, the solids must be separated from the liquids. In

low or high temperatures; at the end of each stage of the purification process, the solids must be separated from the liquids. In general, the products obtained in this stage (4) depend on the way of carrying them out, having the following possibilities: Purified or electrolytic overflow, sent to electrolysis for the zinc electrodeposition. Aseries of metallic cements, such as Co Ni Cement, Cu Cd Cement, etc, depending on the way of proceeding with the process, which will be stored in order to recover the different associated metals. These separation operations (4) are carried out using Filter Presses. The duly prepared thickeners neutral purified overflow sent to the electrolysis stage, produces the metal zinc electrorecuperation and generates a worked out electrolyte (cells acid) which is returned to the lixiviation stages.
