Try fixing your NiCad battery before disposing of it. Nickel cadmium NiCad! rechargeable batteries are extremely popular. They are relati"ely cheap to purchase and can be recharged numerous times. Howe"er, after a while you may find your battery goes dead #uickly, or is weak and, in some cases, it doesn$t take or hold a charge for long. The reason this happens is that the tiny crystals inside the battery increase in si%e and once this happens the battery is unable to retain a charge, but don$t dispose of the battery until you$"e attempted the easy task of fixing it.

( )ake sure your NiCad battery is put on charge, e"en if you$"e had trouble getting it charged. *ou need the battery charged as best as possible so you can begin fixing it.

+ ,ut your NiCad battery into the de"ice it powers. Turn on your de"ice.

.pen as many applications as you can so you can discharge the battery fully. /et the applications run until your de"ice turns off automatically due to lack of energy. /ea"e the de"ice and battery for about (0 or so minutes once it$s turned off.

1 Turn on your again. 2"en though the battery appeared dead a few minutes ago you find the de"ice operates. Turn on a couple of applications and let them run until the de"ice turns off again.

3 4epeat the process until you find the de"ice doesn$t turn on. The number of times you need to repeat the process depends on the condition of your NiCad battery. 5f your battery is old or weak, it isn$t likely to take long. 2ach time you repeat the process you are draining more energy from the battery and as the energy drains, the crystals break down in si%e. The smaller the crystals the more the NiCad battery can retain a charge.

6 ,ut your fully discharged NiCad battery on charge. /ea"e it until the battery charger indicates the battery is full. This may take some time, compared to pre"iously. 4emo"e the battery from the charger once charged and put it in the de"ice it powers. *ou find your NiCad battery is fixed.
