Starts at SECTION: Accounting I (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: This event provides recognition for FBLA members who have an understanding of and skill in basic accounting principles and procedures. One must be able to memorize terminology, types of ownership, ethics, and bank reconciliation and comprehend income statements, balance sheets and computerized systems. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Accounting II (Individual, Multiple-Choice + Production) Description: The accurate keeping of financial records is an ongoing activity in all types of businesses. one must demonstrate an understanding of and skill in accounting principles and procedures as applied to sole proprietor-ships, partnerships, and corporations. One must comprehend budgeting and cash flow, sales, income tax, payroll, inventory and financial statements Testing: A one (1) hour production test and a one (1) hour objective test* Entries per Chapter: 6 *State qualifiers only Business Calculations (11th and 12th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: This topic requires an individual to have a higher understanding of the mathematical problems that relate to business so they may solve business problems that is a challenge for all prospective business employees. This event has an objective test that will have members be tested on a more advanced form of the event business math as it requires an individual to be more affiliated with complex terms and multi-step problems. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Business Communications (11th and 12th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Focuses on advanced English language concepts such as grammar, word usage, definitions, spelling, and more. Also focuses on advanced communication concepts and goes more in-depth on the different kinds of communications. Expands upon Introduction to Business Communications. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Business Law (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: This event will train members to understand the rules and laws that govern the world of business. Participants will learn about Business (business organization, consumer and product/personal liability), Management & Administration (contracts and sales, insurance, secured transactions, bankruptcy), Law (property laws, agency and employment laws, computer law, domestic and personal law) and Public Safety. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Business Math (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: This topic requires an individual to work well with common business mathematical problems as it tests FBLA members on their understanding of basic math functions needed in business. Specialized vocabulary, such as mark ups and chain discounts, will be needed as well as mathematical skills such as finding the percent, calculating salaries, etc. There will be a one hour long objective test that will determine an individuals knowledge in this area. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Business Procedures (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Competency in performing daily tasks is a necessity in business. This event provides recognition for FBLA members who possess knowledge of basic skills and procedures and the ability to make intelligent business decisions. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Non-graphing calculators will be provided. Entries per Chapter: 6 Creed (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Performance) Description: The ability to understand the importance of helping your world/community at local and global levels is an important aspect of FBLA. This event requires the participant to recite the seven-stanza creed to judges and answer judges questions. Entries per Chapter: 1 Cyber Security (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: As the name suggests, Cyber Security is all about the internet and computer security. Identify the different types of computer hacks, their details, and impacts (virus, spam, hijackers, trojans, etc). Know the different types of security (network, e-mail, forensics, and physical security). One will need to know about disaster recovery, intrusion detection, firewalls, cryptography and the public key. Know how to tie these technological aspects with major business functions as well. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Digital Design and Promotion (Individual or Team) Event consists of two parts: a prejudged promotional piece and a presentation component. The promotional piece is a logo based on a certain theme and the presentation component is to present the created logo. Economics (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Learn about the science of economics and its application to the business world. Topics include basic economic concepts, micro/ macroeconomics, productivity, and the different types of firms. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Entrepreneurship (Team, Multiple Choice, Performance)

Description: An entrepreneur is someone who starts a business. This event tests how one will own and manage a business. Marketing skills, economics, business planning, legal issues,taxing, etc. will all be tested. This event recognizes FBLA members who demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to establish and manage a business. If you advance to state, you will present a case study in front of a panel of judges. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (3-4 members) FBLA Principles and Procedures (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Members in FBLA should be knowledgeable about the association and the information found in the official publications. This event provides recognition for FBLA members who are interested in learning about the background and current information of FBLA. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Non-graphing calculators will be provided. Entries per Chapter: 3 Future Business Leader - (Individual, Multiple Choice, Production, Perfomance) Description: One must have demonstrated leadership qualities, participation in FBLA, and evidence of knowledge and skills essential for successful careers in business. Having a basic understanding of business and knowlegde of FBLA will be tested. Testing: Letter of Application and rsum, a(1) one hour objective test and a ten (10) minute interview. Entries per Chapter: 2 Global Business (Team, Multiple-Choice) Description: In this event, members must understand that the global economy is a complex, continually flowing and constantly changing network of information, goods, services, and cultures as wells as other aspects that apply to it. This is a team event that requires members to take an objective test that tests member on their understanding of how global business is run. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (2-3 members) Health Care Administration (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Health care administrators manage the business side of health services, ensuring the effective use of resources to ensure the best medical care to the community. These skills include managing office activities, enhancing communication skills, identifying legal and ethical issues in health care practices, managing financial functions, and enhancing employment skills. This event recognizes FBLA members who have the ability to help people in the health care field. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Hospitality Management (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Tests on hospitality management and operations, hotel sales processes, hospitality marketing concepts, human resource management, and current hospitality industry trends. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Introduction to Business (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Competitors will have to learn the basic financial concept of banking, insurance, credit, investments, and consumerism, and the roles of employees, bosses, etc. This test will also ask about business letter formats and presentations; know when (under what circumstances) to use the different formats as well. Competitors will also be asked on characteristics and organization of a business (especially communications such as details about nonverbal versus verbal communications). Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Introduction to Business Communications (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Competitors will learn everything about the modern English language: grammar, usage, spelling, definitions, and more. They will also learn about the different types of communications and applying the appropriate kinds of communications to different settings. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Introduction to Technology Concepts (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Competitors learn about the importance of the processing of data in todays business world. They will be tested on computer principles and terminology, computer application concepts, basic programming concepts, and computer equipment. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 3 Job Interview (Individual, Application and Interview) Description: Job interview emulates the real process of applying for a job position. In this event you will be required to apply for a made-up position that is tailored to your interests and experiences. In doing so, you will submit a preliminary letter of application, rsum, and application form. If your materials score well, you will participate in the interview component at the Section Conference, where you will sit down and answer interview questions as if you were truly interviewing for a real job. To participate in this event, you must have a desire to learn and put in the time commitment to creating adequate application materials. You must also be sociable and comfortable speaking in front of others. Testing: N/A Entries per Chapter: 2 Marketing (Team, Multiple-Choice + Performance) Description: The objective tests require competitors to be familiar with marketing fundamentals, economics, selling and merchandise, channel of distribution, advertising, legal and social aspects, and e-commerce. Competitors will be given a scenario for the seven-minute performance portion in which they must solve a problem in a role-playing event with the judges. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test will be given. At state, the top five (5) teams will compete in the performance portion. Entries per Chapter: 1 Personal Finance (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Competitors will learn everything about basic finance, from the different types of stocks to credit to health and auto insurance. If you are enrolled in a personal finance class, you will have priority in this event.

Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Public Speaking I (Individual, Performance) Description: Public Speaking requires participants to perform a 4-minute-long, self-written speech of business nature relating to one of the FBLA goals (ex. To promote business education among students). Participants must be comfortable speaking in front of others and willing to practice. Testing: N/A Entries per Chapter: 1 Spreadsheet Applications Description: Spreadsheet skills are necessary to convert data to information in business. This event recognizes FBLA members who demonstrate that they have acquired skills for spreadsheet development in business. Testing: This event consists of two (2) parts: a school-site production test and an objective test. Entries per Chapter: 3 Sports Management (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Sports Management focuses less on the actual sport and more on the works behind the teams. Competitors need to have a core understanding of sports management and marketing. One will need to know strategic marketing, event management, financing, sports law, communications, ethics, and the careers. Also know the athlete-manager relation, boss and client, advertising and sponsors, contracts, and Major League versus college sport aspects. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Technology Concepts (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: This event is one step higher than Introduction to Technology Concepts. Know basics of computer security and computer equipment. Understand the concepts of networks (purpose, benefits, current protocols, OSI standard, and the different types of networks such as Windows, Linux, etc). Be able to explain different operating software and its characteristics, file, and memory system. Also know about telecommunications (telephone support systems), computer apps and integration, and basic technology concepts (terminology, filing tasks, hardware and software, data sharing, file size. Finally, know how to tie these aspects to the business world (its impact on business and society). Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Word Processing I (9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice + Production) Description: Word processing is a necessary skill to acquire to succeed in todays world. The production test requires competitors to type a letter, report, table, or a rsum. The objective test required competitors to familiarize themselves with document formatting, proofreading, basic computer terminology and concepts, and word processing applications. Testing: A one (1) hour production test and a one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 3 Word Processing II (Individual, Multiple-Choice + Production) Description: Word processing is a necessary skill to acquire to succeed in todays world. The production test requires competitors to type a business form, memorandum, e-message, letter, report, table, or a rsum. The objective test required competitors to familiarize themselves with document formatting, proofreading, basic computer concepts, and word processing applications. Testing: A one (1) hour production test and a one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 3 Virtual Business Challenge (Team, Going online and doing the challenge at your own pace) Description: The FBLA Virtual Business Challenge (VBC) management encourages FBLA members to test their skills at managing a distribution center individually or as a team. The VBC has two (2) challenges during the year (fall and spring), and each challenge focuses on different business concepts. Testing: Doing the online challenge Entries per Chapter: 1 team (3-4 members) Starts at STATE: Banking and Financial Systems (Team, Multiple-Choice + Performance) Description: Learn everything there is to know about the finance sector. Topics include finance concepts, business ethics, and taxes. Basic knowledge of economics is recommended. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test will be given. At state, the top five (5) teams will compete in the performance portion. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (2-3 members) Business Ethics (Team, Production + Performance) Description: Ethical decision-making is essential in the business world and the workplace. One must be able to define the ethical dimensions of a problem clearly and provide an ethical solution to a given prompt. Testing: A written report submitted prior to the State Leadership Conference. The top ten (10) teams will move on to the performance portion. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (2-3 members) Business Financial Plan (Individual or Team) Description: Given a certain business scenario (as posted on the FBLA website), you must create a financial plan detailing the steps you will take to make your business successful. Included in the report are Knowledge of basic economics is suggested. Testing: A written report submitted prior to the State Leadership Conference. The top five (5) teams will move on to the performance portion. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (1-3 members) Business Plan Description: This event recognizes FBLA members who possess the knowledge and skills needed to establish and develop a complete financial plan for a business venture. It is a team event in which all members must learn and apply financial business decision-making skills, as well as developing business contacts, implement written and oral skills, and become familiar with procedures of financial institutions. Testing: A report must be submitted within a certain deadline. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (1-3 members) Business Presentation (Individual or Team, Performance)

Description: Competitors must create a written report on the dangers of texting and driving to present to the senior class. The report must include a bibliography and should not exceed two pages. The performance requires competitors to use a presentation software program to create a visual aid. They are given 7 minutes to deliver their presentation, followed by a 3-minute question-answer portion. Testing: A written report submitted prior to the State Leadership Conference. The top ten (10) teams will move on to the performance portion. Entries per Chapter: 1 Client Service (Individual, Performance) Description: The client service consultant engages clients in conversations regarding products, handles inquiries, solves problems, and uncovers opportunities for additional assistance. Participants develop speaking ability and poise through presentation as well as critical thinking skills. Testing: Role Play Simulation Performance Entries per Chapter: 1 Emerging Business Issues (Team of 2 or 3, Test and Performance) Description: This event provides FBLA members with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills in researching and presenting an emerging business issue. In addition to learning research skills, team participants develop speaking ability and poise through oral presentations. It consists of two (2) parts: a preliminary written report submitted before the SLC as outlined in these guidelines, and a performance component for the top ten (10) written preliminary reports. The finalist teams will give a presentation for the topic provided below, taking the affirmative or negative argument. Marketers are always looking for better ways to gather information about target markets and increase product sales. With the rise of social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn, marketers are able to use a new form of behavioral targetinga kind of conversational eavesdropping analysis. The issue has been raised that these techniques invade privacy. Be prepared to argue the affirmative, that yes, marketers should be able to collect information via Facebook and LinkedIn; or be prepared to argue the negative, that using information collected from personal posts on Facebook and LinkedIn is an invasion of privacy. There can be no substitutions because the participants who authored the event must conduct the presentation portion of the event. Testing: N/A Entries per Chapter: 1 Team of 2 or 3 Help Desk (Individual, Performance) Description: This event tests the ability to provide technical assistance to the users of computer hardware and software. This event provides recognition for FBLA members who demonstrate an understanding of and ability to provide technical assistance to end users. It consists of 2 parts: an objective test and a performance component based on a scenario. A one (1) hour objective test will be administered based on the competencies listed. The top ten (10) participants will be scheduled for the scenario role play. Testing: A one hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 1 Impromptu Speaking Description: The ability to express one's thoughts without prior preparation is a valuable asset, as are poise, self-confidence, and organization of facts. This event recognizes FBLA members who develop qualities of business leadership by combining quick and clear thinking with conversational speaking. Testing: Participants will be given a topic related to one or more of the following: FBLA-PBL Goals, FBLA-PBL activities, FBLA-PBL current national programs, current events, and/or relevant business topics. Each participant must conduct a speech extemporaneously and recite it for the judges. Entries per Chapter: 1 Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures( 9th and 10th grades only) (Individual, Multiple-Choice) Description: Competitors will master the rules of effective meeting management according to Roberts Rule of Orders Newly Revised. Testing: A one(1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 6 Management Decision Making Description: Learn about the details behind making critical decisions at a moments notice. Topics include but are not limited to: financial management, economics, marketing, and business law. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test will be given. At state, the top five (5) teams will compete in the performance portion. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (2-3 members) Networking Concepts Description: Acquiring a high level of familiarization and proficiency in working on and with networks is essential in todays connected workplace. This event provides recognition for FBLA members who have an understanding of data communications and network administration. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 3 Network Design (Team, Production + Performance) Description: The ability to evaluate the needs of an organization and then design and implement network solutions is a valuable skill in todays connected workplace. Testing: A one (1) hour objective test. Entries per Chapter: 1 team (2-3 members) Parliamentary Procedures (Team, Multiple-Choice and Performance) Description: Parliamentary procedures require understanding of the rules of operating a formal meeting. Most of the materials needed for this event comes from Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised and the FBLA bylaws. Testing: At the sectional level, the team does not have to do a performance, only multiple-choice questions. At the state level and at the national level, it is required that the team perform in front of judges. Entries per Chapter: 1 team
