Rev-Elution Bio-Concentrator
A. Introduction
The RevElution Bio-Concentrator is a rapid and efficient way to quickly concentrate liquid microbial samples as large as 2 L to as little as 200 l. Liquid samples are drawn into a single use pipette tip and particles are captured on the internal membrane. When the entire sample has been processed, the unit stops and signals the user to start the patented wet foam elution process. Captured particles are recovered in a concentrated form, resulting in an over 90% recovery rate. And, because the entire sample path is contained in a disposable tip, sample-to-sample carry over is eliminated.
Right: The RevElution Bio-Concentrator is an ideal sample prep instrument for bacteria, parasites, molds, fungi and whole cells found in food, beverage and environmental samples and other life science applications.

B. Market Information
1. Typical Accounts
Type of Account Possible Applications

Food and beverage processing and safety monitoring

Beverages - spoilage organisms and pathogens Process waters Liquid samples from food preparation Product wash waters Bacteria testing from liquid samples Recreational water monitoring Waste water monitoring Legionella monitoring Evidence of bacteria such as E. coli DNA analysis Cell capture 3. G. Possible Objections & Responses

1. I use a centrifuge in my lab, and it works for me. A centrifuge costs up to $200 per sample and can take 15 minutes or longer to concentrate the samples. Retrieving the bacteria incorrectly can lower recovery rates.

D. Opportunities for Companion Products

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Tips Elution cans Maintenance kits Starter kits Analyzers

2. What about cross contamination? Because the tips of the RevElution are singleuse, contamination is not an issue. To clean the lines of the unit, decontamination fluid and rinse fluids are available in the Maintenance Kit. 3. Ive never used this type of unit. The RevElution is a one of a kind unit for fast concentration of up to 2 L samples. Efficiency of the microorganism recovery is high, and its small enough to fit on a lab bench or be stored when not in use.

E. Features
1. Concentrates at a rate of up to 100 mL/min 2. High efficiency rates for bacteria, parasites, molds and whole cells 3. Single-use tips eliminate contaminant carryover 4. Easy push-button operation 5. Operators can be trained in less than 10 minutes 6. Entire sample path is contained within the disposable tip 4. Biological samples remain viable 5. Accepts starting volumes as large as 2 L 6. Final concentration from 200-1000 l (less than 1 mL) 7. Competitively priced 8. One year warranty

H. Competitors
1. ElutraSep, Inc. a. Can only deliver concentration factors of up to 200 times per minute, while the RevEution can deliver up to 500 times per minute b. Manual process sample and syringes are used to push and pull liquid through a filter to extract the captured particles 2. Centrifuge a. Takes at least 15 minutes to process samples b. Requires a skilled operator c. Input volume is seriously limited to the size of the centrifuge d. Is technically challenging with low input concentrations

F. Qualifying Questions
Q. What are you currently using for rapid concentration? If the customer is using membrane filtration, the process is manual and lengthy (taking at least 15 minutes). The RevElution, in comparison, is an automated system that can process 250 mL in under two minutes. If the customer is using the PATHATRIX model, it can take as much as 120 minutes to concentrate 250 mL. The PATHATRIX model is also more expensive than the RevElution.

Q. What problems are you having with your current evaporation process? If the customer complaint is a high cost per sample, note that the RevElution costs roughly $13 per sample with higher efficiency rates than other products. With other units, the cost per sample can be up to $250.
