Information on Disposal of Old Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Batteries (applicable for EU countries that have adopted separate waste collection systems) Products and batteries with the symbol (crossed-out wheeled bin) cannot be disposed as household waste. Old electrical and electronic equipment and batteries should be recycled at a facility capable of handling these items and their waste byproducts. Contact your local authority for details in locating a recycle facility nearest to you. Proper recycling and waste disposal will help conserve resources whilst preventing detrimental effects on our health and the environment. Notice: The sign Pb below the symbol for batteries indicates that this battery contains lead.

Safety Summary
STOP
Warning! For your safety and the protection of the equipment, observe these precautions when installing or servicing Zetron equipment.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the equipment or included in documentation. Only technically qualified service personnel are permitted to install or service the equipment. Be aware of and avoid contact with areas subject to high voltage or amperage. Because some components can store dangerous charges even after power is disconnected, always discharge components before touching. Never insert objects of any kind through openings in the equipment. Conductive foreign objects could produce a short circuit that could cause fire, electrical shock, or equipment damage. Remove rings, watches, and other metallic objects from your body before opening equipment. These could be electrical shock or burn hazards. Ensure that a proper electrostatic discharge device is used, to prevent damage to electronic components. Do not attempt internal service of equipment unless another person, capable of rendering aid and resuscitation, is present. Do not work near rotating fans unless absolutely necessary. Exercise caution to prevent fans from taking in foreign objects, including hair, clothing, and loose objects. Use care when moving equipment, especially rack-mounted modules, which could become unstable. Certain items may be heavy. Use proper care when lifting.

Overview
The EIU is an Acom card that provides Ethernet connectivity for Acom backroom equipment such as the Acom DS3 Subrack (ADS) and Acom Line Subrack (ALS). The EIU is primarily used for two purposes: to connect with Acom EVO Consoles over an IP network, and to connect with Zetron Intelligent Radio Interface Modules (iRIMs). The two Ethernet ports on the EIU support network redundancy provided they are connected to a redundant network configuration. The EIU card has LEDs that provide visible indication of network activity and redundancy status. Configuration and adjustments are performed via the Integrated Management System (IMS). The EIU card has the following features: Compatible with network redundancy Local and remote debugging access HTTP access to statistics Hot plugging capability Failsafe firmware
Overview
The EIU card, when used with Acom EVO Consoles, has the following features: Interleaved audio multiplexing into RTP streams to/from the IP console. Select and Monitor channels form a single RTP stream to the console. RTCP statistics for the RTP streams. PCM to RTP conversion with clock rate adjustment. G711 audio codec for clear voice. Dynamic jitter buffer to minimize latency and packet-loss. IP console connectivity and data messaging using UDP and IMGP. 802.1P Differentiated Services QoS tagging of traffic. May be installed in ADS slot 2-4. Up to 3 EIU cards may be installed in an ADS shelf.
IP control of Tetra radios via the Zetron iRIM Handles up to 30 channels concurrently Line Subrack redundancy, the main/backup EIU sync via an Ethernet cross-over cable on the 3rd LAN port for seamless changeover May be installed in ALS slot 1-11

LED Indicators
Run LED The Run LED is green when the EIU is running and red when the EIU is in reset or hardware failure. Status LEDs (EIU in ADS) The following table describes the remaining bank of eight LED status indicators when the EIU is installed in an ADS, and after the EIU has had several seconds to boot up. If all eight LEDs are solid red, this indicates a corrupt firmware.

Ethernet LEDs (J1, J2, and J3) The Green LED indicates a cable link. It is illuminated if there is a valid cable link to a network. The Yellow LED indicates network activity. It blinks regularly when receiving network traffic. Ethernet LEDs (DS6 and DS7) DS6 and DS7 are small, surface-mount LEDs that are difficult to see when they are not illuminated. Refer to Figure 3 to locate them on the inside of the card. The green LEDs DS6 and DS7 indicate the network speed of Ethernet connectors J1 and J2 respectively. If the LED is on, the speed is 100M; when it is off, the speed is 10M.

Reset
Pressing the reset button on the slot 0 controller card results in a reset state for the EIU card.
Settings
Most of the EIU configuration is performed in IMS (see Acom Software Installation and Configuration, P/N 025-9529). Jumpers are used primarily for troubleshooting. For jumper locations, see Figure 3.

Connector Detail
Primary Ethernet (J1) This provides the primary Ethernet connection to an Acom EVO console or Zetron iRIM by way of a LAN. Each RJ45 Ethernet interface operates at 10/100Mbps autosense for LAN connectivity. The Ethernet interfaces host a HTTP server for web statistics, an FTP server for firmware updates, and a Telnet server for diagnostics.
Note The Ethernet interfaces have no default IP address, the ports are disabled until configured in IMS.
15
Interfaces
Standby Ethernet (J2) This provides the standby Ethernet connection to an Acom EVO console or Zetron iRIM, assuming the LAN has a redundant network configuration. For the ALS EIU installation, all iRIM connections occur via the active J1/J2 port. A LAN fault will move the iRIM connections to the other interface. For the EVO Console installation, both console groups operate via the active J1/J2 port. Loop1 and Loop2 will operate from the same interface until a fault causes a changeover of both loops to the other interface. The J1 and J2 Ethernet ports share a common Floating IP address that allows them to seamlessly host incoming connections and communicate on whichever port is functional. The active port (indicated by LED) responds to messages while the inactive port does not. Debug/Redundancy Link (J3) When installed in an ADS, J3 provides telnet debug functionality only, it has no affect on redundancy. When installed in an ALS, J3 provides the redundancy link between primary and standby EIU cards. The redundant EIU card must be in a redundant Acom Line Subrack. The cable between J3 on each EIU card is a Ethernet crossover, swapping pins 1,2 for 3,6. Debug Port (J4) This port provides a USB interface between the EIU and a local maintenance terminal via a Type-B jack. The connected PC may use this interface to update firmware or issue diagnostic commands via a dumb-terminal such as HyperTerminal. The Debug Port presents itself to the PC as a serial COM port with the following settings: 460,800 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no flow control. P1 BDM Debug port for factory use only. P2 Backplane Connector Standard backplane interface.

One of the Acom EVO Consoles connected to virtual port y is configured for redundant operation and its connection to the other EIU card has failed. Not used at this time. The configuration of virtual port y is incorrect e.g. an incorrect multicast address has been configured. There is no correctly configured Acom EVO Console connected to virtual port y. There is a loss of audio due to network conditions. Not used at this time. The Router IP Address device cannot be pinged from the Ethernet port z. There is a physical error, e.g. broken cable, on Ethernet port z. The conferencing resources on the EIU card are exhausted and some consoles may not hear all selected lines.

x refers to card A, B, or C. These letters represent EIU cards from left to right in slots 2, 3, or 4 of the ADS. y refers to the virtual port (1 or 2).
Note
Acom EVO provides a native IP interface between the console and the EIU. Each EIU supports two virtual links per physical link (the two Ethernet ports). Each virtual link supports one console group (typically 5-10 consoles, depending on their use configuration). Only one physical link is used at a time, the other is a standby link.
