Weather from SPOS to ECO Voyage

ECO Voyage can read weather data from SPOS, but this requires some preparation in SPOS. Unfortunately will SPOS not automatically update weather file. This will describe how to make data both for first plan and as voyage is progressing. If you experience an Error, Blocked by land this can be corrected by changing the waypoint track from Rhumb Line or Great Circle to Canal Passage (see next page).

1. Start SPOS. Under Weather tab update the forecast

SPOS input
2. Press the Input tab

3. Set Time to the Pilot departure time and set the speed to Required bottom speed 4. Choose the ECO Voyage route, you have exported Recommended to set Time between waypoint to 6 hours

Can be changed to Canal Passage to avoid problems with Blocked by land

SPOS route optimization

1. Press the Route tab

2. Press the All button to make the calculation of different alternatives to optimize the planned track.

Note: SPOS usually calculates four alternatives: A great circle track, a rhumb line track, a combined GCRL (composite) track and the optimum track, which is distorted according to the weather prediction. The weather induced speed loss usually makes all alternatives appear slower than the ECO Voyage figures, and can be corrected by increasing the Speed in calm weather under the Input tab.

Note: This step is necessary in order to create weather information to ECO Voyage.

SPOS Create Voyage

1. Choose the Voyage tab 2. Press Create Voyage button and the dialogue box appears 3. Choose the track, you wish to follow, provide a name and click Next button

Note: You do not need to fill in the remaining textboxes. Press Next and Finish

The Weather Info tab

Info: Under this tab data for each leg may be corrected. Info: The import of weather predictions will allow the program to take the speed loss from wind and wave encounters into consideration. This will reduce unwanted oscillations in speed or engine setting arising from varying conditions during the voyage.

1. Choose the source of current you want to use for calculation and press the button. The Mean (SPOS and VESCOS) calculation method will in most cases be optimal.

2. You might change weather or current if data seem unreasonable. These may be corrected for each leg from own experience.

3. You might enter a max/min Speed from own experience or from calculation by the Shallow water tool. Or you might want a specific arrival time at a certain WP Note: Only rows where an Auto Fill checkbox is shown can be edited.

Note: This step is necessary in order to update the weather information into ECO Voyage.

SPOS Update Voyage
