Retirement from Parliament of Queensland Dear Madam Speaker, I humbly request that on my behalf you read this correspondence into Hansard, or table it for inclusion in Hansard at your earliest opportunity. Due to matters directly relating to my health, which are on the public record and also known to you as a result of previous correspondence from my specialist medical practitioner, I am announcing my retirement from the Parliament of Queensland and as the Member for Redcilffe effective today. It has been my privilege to be the servant of the people of Redcliffe since my election in March 2012. Secondly, I am also aware that a report regarding matters relating to my interests register has been tabled by the Parliamentary Ethics Committee, making certain recommendations for the Parliament to opt to consider. Due to my health, I was not able to actively participate in the process the Committee conducted and this was also advised to the Committee by my specialist medical practitioner. Hence the findings are without my contribution and/or input. Under different circumstances, where my health would have been permitting, should this report and it's recommendations be debated on the floor of the Parliament, I would have been a very respectful, though robust and motivated participant. But, with my deteriorating health, it is simply not an option I could possibly entertain.

I have enormous respect for our Parliament and it's institutions, procedures and practices. I have always tried my best to uphold these since being a Member and have never knowingly or deliberately acted in any manner intended to detract from them. Upon my resignation today, my household is without any other form of income. I have considerable ongoing medical costs associated with my personal medical condition and my wife also currently remains under ongoing medical care. I also have a young daughter who will be directly impacted by our soon to be much changed household financial circumstances. I humbly ask the Parliament to consider these facts, should they be in a position to debate certain recommendations of the Ethics Committee report involving financial imposts on myself. I sincerely wish my colleagues within the Parliament of Queensland well in all their endeavours to help make Queensland an even better place to live, work and play. I especially thank the people of Redcliffe for electing me as their State Member in March 2012 and believe my home town, the First Settlement town of Queensland has every right to stand proud and look to a bright future.
