Launching Applications
1. To access different applications and utilities, double-click the Start Here icon on the Desktop.
2. Click once on the application you wish to use, or click once on a different tab to choose another category.

Choose SCSI Bus 1 from the drop-down list, and then click the Scan button on the bottom right of the screen.

Occasionally external or removable media (Jaz, Zip, CD, etc.) do not immediately mount on the desktop. If this occurs, use the following checklist: 1. Is the disk completely inserted in the correct drive? 2. Is there a light on the drive that indicates it has power? 3. Is your disk formatted for the Macintosh? If the disk does not mount at this time, please ask a Kinkos team member for assistance. To eject external media from the drive, drag its icon to the Trash. Please do not use the Eject Disk command. USB Devices Most common USB drivers are loaded. Simply plug the USB device into the USB hub attached to the workstation you are renting. If you need assistance with the hub, or if the device does not mount, contact a Kinkos team member. FireWire Devices Most FireWire drivers are not loaded. For assistance on using your FireWire device, contact a Kinkos team member.

1. Copy your font(s) from your external media into the Font HD on the desktop. Eject the removable media that you copied the font(s) from. 2. Under the Apple menu, choose ATM Deluxe. 3. Choose the tab Sets & Fonts. 4. Open Customer Set by double-clicking on it. 5. Drag the fonts from the Customer Fonts folder on the desktop to Customer Set in ATM Deluxe. 6. Click the Activate button in the lower left corner of the window. 7. Some applications (for example, Microsoft products) require that you quit and re-launch the application before the fonts are activated. In other applications, such as Adobe PageMaker and QuarkXPress, the fonts are activated immediately. 8. Before checking out, please deactivate and delete these fonts within the Customer Set in ATM Deluxe.

When saving les to be used on a Windows operating system older than Windows 95, please name them according to the standard 8.3 naming convention. Any eight letters or numbers followed by a period and a threeletter extension. For example, a Microsoft Word document could be named: myexampl.doc.
Optical Character Recognition scanning can be as much as 99% accurate, depending on the quality of your originals. Please note that text scanning does not always retain formatting, so additional formatting may be required.

Under current law it is illegal to reproduce professional photographs without express written permission from the photographer or studio that took the photograph. Probable examples of professional photographs include the following: Those depicting a standard copyright notice (such as, 2001 Kinkos Inc.) Those displaying a Do Not Copy notice Photographs with a studio backdrop, background such as mock scenery or an individual posed Headshots or photographs from a models portfolio or an actors bio sheet School events (such as, yearbook, prom, graduation, club/group or similar) Wedding pictures by a professional photographer Celebrity photographs (unless it is obvious that the photograph is an amateur photograph) Sport team or athlete photographs by a professional photographer Historic or famous monuments or events (such as, the Lone Cypress at Pebble Beach, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Kennedy assassination, the World Trade Center tragedy) Photographs that appear professional due to style or media (such as, glossy prints, canvas, etc.) If your photograph contains any of the above characteristics and you are not the person who took the photograph, Kinkos will not reproduce or allow you to use our equipment to reproduce it, unless you can provide written permission from the photographer or studio that took the photograph.

2. From the Launcher, click once on the Adobe Photoshop icon. 3. Select the scanning device. A window appears and displays a preview of what you have placed on the glass. If the attached scanner is an Epson scanner, from the File menu, select Import and then point to TWAIN-Acquire. If the attached scanner is an HP scanner, from the File menu, select Import and then point to ScanTastic 4.5. 4. Crop the Image In the provided window, move the dotted line around the image by holding down the mouse button and dragging the cursor over the image. Enclose the area you want to scan. Do not cut anything off, but crop unnecessary areas out to reduce le size. 5. Select Path (resolution) Images intended for printing should be scanned at twice the resolution of the halftone screen of your printer. Most ofce printers do not require resolutions greater than 170 dpi. The following table lists some sample resolutions. Most ofce printers do not require resolutions greater than 170 dpi. The following table lists some sample resolutions. Contact a Kinkos team member for specic recommendations for the scanner that you are using.

The following general options work well, but contact a Kinkos team member for specic recommendations for your scanning needs. Black & White Drawing = no grays Black & White Photo = black and white with grayscale Color Photo = color photo 7. Perform Final Scan Click Scan if Epson TWAIN was selected. Click Final Scan if HP ScanJet was selected. Click Close after scanning is nished if Epson TWAIN was selected. 8. Select Graphic File Format and Name File For the internet/web use JPEG or GIF format. Note that GIF images must be converted to Indexed Color from the Image menu in Photoshop. For Printing use TIF (photos) or EPS (drawings) format. For Screen Savers use BMP (Windows) and PICT. To save the le, select Save As from the File menu in Photoshop. Use the Save As drop-down menu in the resulting dialog box to specify the format. We recommend that all scans be named with their le format type as a three-digit extension. (For example: photo.tif) 9. Copy Your Image to Your Portable Media It is always better to work directly from a computers hard drive until you are nished scanning, then copy all les to external media for transport. 1. Simply select the printer you wish to use from the print dialog box in the application you are using.
1. From the top left hand location on the workstation select TrackNet or TrackNet Lite from the list.
Selecting the Number of Prints You can select the number of prints you wish to make from the application in which you are working. Typically, you can set the number of prints by selecting Print from the File menu, and then entering in the appropriate number from the Copies section.
3. Click once on the selected printer, and select the button Make Default.
Select ASCII To ensure that your le prints successfully, select ASCII settings for all print jobs in the print dialog menus.

Printing on 11 x 17 Paper 11 x 17 paper is also called Tabloid or Ledger. Set the paper option under properties to 11 x 17, Tabloid, or Ledger. Determine the paper size of your document, (Letter: 8.5 x 11, Legal: 8.5 x 14 or Tabloid/Ledger: 11 x 17) then specify it in the Page Setup window. All of our black and white printers that support this size paper should have 11 x 17 paper already loaded. If your document is set to print on 11 x 17 paper, just click OK to print. Printing from Microsoft Word Microsoft Word will not let you exceed a .43 margin on all four sides of the paper. Make sure your margins are at least .43 or some of the printing will be cut off. Please remove extra carriage returns at the end of your document to avoid printing blank sheets. Printing from Adobe PageMaker If you are having difculty printing from PageMaker, hold down the Option key when printing from this application. Printing from QuarkXPress Every time you print from QuarkXPress, you need to select Page Setup under the File menu. It is essential that the correct Printer Type and Paper Size are selected. Paper size is selected in two areas! Determine the paper size of your document, (Letter: 8.5 x 11, Legal: 8.5 x 14 or Tabloid/Ledger: 11 x 17) then specify it in the Page Setup window.

Printing from QuarkXPress Every time you print from QuarkXPress, you need to select Page Setup under the File menu. It is essential that the correct Printer Type and Paper Size are selected. Paper size is selected in two areas!
