Corey Goodrow Literacy Philosophy As a boy, I remember running home from the Bookmobile with my arms full of books.

eading has always been !ery special to me, for a plethora of reasons. eading enabled me to be a part of another world, learn about more cultures than my own, learn about morality, and find en"oyment. #hese things are something that should be cherished because the e$perience is something people cannot get from other places. %or these reasons, I don&t belie!e literacy can be talked about too much in content areas. Literacy is important in any field, especially in 'nglish. (ith this in mind, I feel it is my duty to prepare students with the skills necessary to de!elop literacy. )y studies ha!e helped prepare me for the honor that parents are entrusting me with, educating their children. It is my hope that my lo!e of literature will also help students learn about literacy and the importance it will hold in their educations and life. I also belie!e that teaching students these skills will go beyond school and prepare them for working and the obstacles they may face in e!eryday life. *howing literacy as being a focal point of not "ust the 'nglish content, but also the other content areas, is another important aspect of my duty to students. It is their right to know that literacy isn&t something they will see in one area of life and I want to be the one to guide them to reali+ing the importance of it. Connecting my content with other content areas is important to show students how facets of life connect with each other, although it may appear to not be the case. Creating a student, centered, democratic classroom is another goal that I ha!e for when I become a teacher. Collaboration is a big portion of my philosophy because I belie!e students should learn how to work with one another. Collaboration without respect is something I want to a!oid howe!er. If I allow students to collaborate without proper eti-uette, I would be doing them a disser!ice, which I don&t e!er want to do. If I can teach one student anything, I will ha!e one a small !ictory. *mall !ictories are nice, but I want to focus on large !ictories because teaching all students should be e!ery teacher&s goal. Although this goal does seem daunting, if a teacher doesn&t want to reach all students, I belie!e it will hinder their teaching ability. I want to be the greatest teacher in the world and I intend to stri!e for that with e!ery fiber of my being. After all, if I don&t try my hardest to do my best, how can I "ustify asking students to do so.
