French Alphabet
Standards: Content: 1Communication skills: Students will be able to use language other than English for communication. a. Comprehend simple language consisting of basic vocabulary and structures in face-to-face conversations with peers and familiar adults b. Call upon repetition, rephrasing and nonverbal cue to derive or convey meaning from a language other than English

Technology: 1- Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology a. Students will apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes. 2- Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. a. Students will evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks. 3- Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations a. Students will select and use applications effectively and productively Lesson Objective(s): 1- Students will able to memorize and produce the correct pronunciation the French alphabet 2- Students will be able to create a PowerPoint they could use to teach a child the French alphabet. 3- Students will be able to record themselves with Audacity. 4- Students will be able to add sound clips to PowerPoint. Introduce the Learning Activity:

Teacher will welcome class and introduce the topic of the alphabet. Teacher will explain that the alphabet is the bases of everything they will learn in French. Trs important! Teacher will explain that since its a half period they may not get through entire alphabet. Teacher will ask students to sing alphabet in English. Teacher will sing alphabet in French. This will connect students to their own alphabet and tap into their prior knowledge since it is all the same letters, but very different sounds. Provide Information: 1. Teacher will use Poissant Rouge site to explain where the inspiration for childrens book project came from. Teacher will instruct that this is a guide to follow, not to copy. Students need to produce original works. Teacher will explain and hand out rubrics for electronic childrens books. 2. Students end results should be an electronic childrens book that they can use to teach someone the French alphabet through sound and sight. Provide Practice: Day 1: 1. Teacher will correctly pronounce letter in French and have class repeat. 2. Teacher will lead class to their website and have them click on link under resources. Students will navigate to requested websites. 3. Teacher will instruct students to use their headphones and repeat the sounds. Students will work independently with the website listening and repeating the pronunciations of each letter provided by native speakers. Teacher will circle room listening and correcting students. (formative) 4. Teacher will redirect students to their website and click on Poissant Rouge link. Teacher will encourage students to explore site for a few moments. Teacher will explain student activity to recreate an electronic childrens book with the use of PowerPoint. Students will work on project for the remainder of period. Day 2: 1. Teacher will instruct students on how to use the Audacity software to record themselves reciting each letter of the alphabet. Teacher will then demonstrate an example of how to place sound clip onto PowerPoint slide for the students childrens books. 2. Students will continue working on electronic childrens book adding graphics and sounds to slides. Day 3: One week later

1. Teacher will hand out and explain rubric sheets. Teacher will place students into groups of four to present their project. Peers will evaluate completed electronic childrens books. Provide Knowledge of Results: 1. Teacher will correct any wrong pronunciations of letters. Teacher will complement students on good pronunciation. Teacher will encourage students that are more advanced to work with the accented letters of the alphabet. Teacher will mark which letters students are having the most difficult with to review in the next class. Teacher suggest to students to choose better suited words for their books. 2. Teacher will go around with grade book and mark participatory points for students who are actively doing guided practice with website. 3. Teacher will assign summative grade for power point childrens book. Review the Activity: 1. Students will recite the French alphabet to the Teacher. This can be done individually or as a whole class. 2. Teacher will ask two students to explain what the assignment is and which technologies they are using. 3. Students will review activity by presenting their childrens book in groups of four. The students will peer-evaluate each other works. Method of Assessment: Students will provide hard copies of their PowerPoints to the teachers. Their final scores will be an average between their peers scores of their work and the teachers. Both scores will be created using the rubric below. Scoring guide: Criteria Vocabulary Emerging Missing some words. All in English. Advanced Most words are in French, some errors.
