Facilities for Researchers


The London School of Commerce has a dedicated research centre, with facilities reserved exclusively for PhD students, at the Pocock House campus. The centre is located a short walk from London Bridge and provides a supervisory and tuition base for students enrolled on the PhD. It features fully equipped and exclusive study rooms and is the base for monthly seminars. Libraries The library has an excellent catalogue of both printed and on-line materials. Additional learning support is provided by qualified library staff with expert knowledge of research and data source material. LSC provides a full induction programme covering data sources, and offers research support throughout the programme. Registration as a Cardiff Met student also gives access to other university libraries in London and the British Library. Computing Wireless access is provided throughout the LSC campuses and the Research Degrees Study Rooms are equipped with IT facilities for the sole use of research degree students.

Entry Requirements Requirements A good Masters Degree, from a recognised university, relevant to the proposed research project. Applicants with a lower or non-graduate qualifications will be considered on an individual basis (e.g. professional qualifications or extensive relevant experience). For international students, a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with at least 6.5 in reading and writing, and 6.0 in all other components (or equivalent.) PhDs are awarded for the development of new theory and/or critical insights into established theory or practice which are based on the conduct and completion of a rigorous and extended piece of original research. PhD candidates are required to undertake training in research methods, to attend research seminars and to design and implement research to enable them to generate significant new knowledge in their subject area. The award of a PhD qualification is based on acceptance of the final dissertation and satisfactory performance in a viva voce examination. The London School of Commerce is a recognised Cardiff Metropolitan University Research Centre, and successful completion of the PhD will lead to a degree awarded by the University.
