Northeast and North Central Basis

NATIONAL DAILY LAMB CARCASS REPORT

Compared to last week: The special fed veal carcass market was steady to
weak on non-packer owned calves, while packer owned calves were steady to
firm with moderate demand and offerings. Harvest numbers were 6.6
percent higher compared to last week's total. Dressed weights were up
3.6 pounds in the Northeast, up 6.3 pounds in the North Central, with the
total NE & NC being up 4.8 pounds.

Compared to last week: 45# and down weight carcasses 9.05 higher;
45-55# carcasses 4.16 higher; 55-65# carcasses 6.22 higher; 65-85#
carcasses 3.05-3.16 higher and 85# and heavier carcasses were
5.62 higher.

Represents calves harvested Monday through Wednesday of this week.

CARCASS PRICE EQUIVALENT INDEX VALUES
The carcass price equivalent index value of a Choice 600-900 lbs
carcass was 0.98 lower at 193.79; Select 600-900 lbs carcass was
0.31 lower at 178.44 compared to last Friday.
FABRICATED BOXED BEEF CUTS AND BEEF CUTOUT VALUE
For the week, boxed beef cutout values were weak on Choice and
higher on Select on very light to light demand and light offerings.
Continuing the trend from last week, load counts were below average
indicating buyer resistance to higher asking prices.
The primal
with the most gains this week was the rib primal that trended firm
on Choice and higher on Select.
The Select and Choice chuck and
round primals held steady this session and the loin primal was weak
on Choice and firm on Select. The weighted average price of the
Choice trimmed shoulder clod has been increasing over the last
several weeks and this weeks price of 226.28 set a new record
high. The Choice /Select spread has narrowed in recent weeks; a
counter trend for this time of year and is supported by the gains
in the Select loin primal over the last few weeks. Overseas exports
continue to have large load counts with 795 loads being reported
this week. Fed grinds traded weaker this session while blended
grinds were firm to higher. Beef trimmings were higher on light
demand and very light to light offerings. Forward negotiated sales
were light with no major consignments.
For the week, Choice rib primal 1.75 higher while Select 7.25
higher; Select and Choice chuck primal steady
to 1.00 lower;
Select and Choice round primal steady; Choice loin primal 2.00
lower while Select 3.00 higher.

carcasses down 0.61 at 203.99 Select 600/900# carcasses up 1.03 at
190.17 when compared to last Friday.
COW AND BULL CARCASS, BONELESS PROCESSING BEEF, CUTTER COW CUTOUT
Lean boneless processing beef was generally steady while
trimmings were mostly steady to firm. Demand was moderate for heavy
offerings. Trading activity was moderate. Heavy supplies of
boneless lean, weak seasonal demand and sharply higher 50% lean
trimmings values continued to pressure prices. The cow and bull
slaughter remained stronger than anticipated.
Market activity on imported beef was slow to moderate. Prices
were mostly firm to 2.00 higher. Tight supplies and stronger demand
continued to support prices. Australian beef imports were at near
record levels but strong competition diverted most of that supply
into the Asian marketplace.
Cutter cow cutout values were steady to weak. Demand was light
to moderate and offerings were moderate to heavy. Chuck, round,
rib, loin and flank cuts were mixed. 100% lean items were mixed.
Lean boneless beef 92-94% unevenly steady; 90% generally steady;
85% generally steady; 81% mostly steady; 75% firm to 1.00 higher;
65% unevenly steady; Other lean percentages were not fully
established. 100% lean combo items were mixed. Cutter cow carcass
gross cutout value for Thursday, October 31, 2013 was estimated at
$156.63 per cwt, 0.94 higher compared to last Friday.

BY-PRODUCTS: VARIETY MEATS, TALLOWS, PROTEINS, AND HIDES


Trading on beef variety meats continued to be slow this week.
The lack of buying interest made the market feel like a prelude to
Thanksgiving.
However packers explained that the availability of
product was limited due to tighter than expected harvest numbers.
Light trading was seen to Mexico as traders continued to buy
grinding materials traditionally used tacos.
Market activity on pork variety meat markets was also slow this
week. While harvest numbers increased this week, the availability
of pork variety meats for negotiated trade was limited. The prices
for pork cheeks continued to climb as the supply of pork lean trim
was extremely tight.
With the holiday season approaching sausage
makers were scrambling for trim meats.
Trading on tallows and greases was slow this week.
Good
chemical demand prompted higher prices on Chicago packer and
renderer tallow.
Chicago choice white grease also ended higher.
Central choice white grease rebounded slightly on improved prices
across the board for tallows and greases.
Chicago edible tallow
finished higher as well.
Refiner demand was moderate for limited
offerings. Gulf edible tallow traded; however there was no recent
test for comparison.
Market activity on protein feed supplements was slow this week.
Ruminant and pork meat and bone meal prices ended mostly steady.
Demand and offerings were light to moderate.
Central blood meal
ended steady to higher, while the Panhandle product finished
higher.
Demand was moderate for mostly light to moderate
offerings.
Major packer hides experienced slow trading this week. Supplies
are tight on seasonal average weight hides and leather demand
remains moderate.
Packers are well sold forward.
The market
continues to be strong. All reported selections finished at higher
prices.
Beef Variety Meats: Cheek meat steady; Domestic hearts not
tested, export hearts steady to 2.00 higher with last quote; Export
tripe (premium) 15.00 higher.
Pork Variety Meats:
Cheeks steady to 2.00 higher; Hearts,
slashed, domestic steady; Salivary glands steady.
Central choice white grease 0.25-1.00 higher; Central yellow
grease 0.50 lower; Chicago packer bleachable tallow 1.00 higher;
Chicago renderer bleachable tallow 0.50 higher; Chicago choice
white grease 2.50 higher; Chicago edible tallow 4.50 higher than
the most recent test; Central meat and bone meal steady; Panhandle
meat and bone meal steady to 8.00 higher; pork meat and bone meal
steady; Central blood meal steady to 100.00 higher; Panhandle blood
meal 100.00 higher; pork blood meal 20.00-25.00 higher; Heavy
Native Steer hides 2.00-2.50 higher.
The average value of hide and offal for the four days ending
November 07, 2013, was estimated at 14.41 per cwt., up 0.30 from
last week and up 1.54 from last year.
NORTHEAST COAST AND NORTH CENTRAL VEAL CARCASS, CUTS
Compared to last week:
Non packer owned calves were steady to
firm, while packer owned calves steady to weak. Demand light to
moderate with moderate offerings. Harvest numbers were 6.6 percent
higher compared to last week's total. Dressed weights were up 3.6
pounds in the Northeast, up 6.3 pounds in the North Central, with
the total NE & NC being up 4.8 pounds.
Special fed veal cut prices were mostly steady on light to
moderate demand and offerings.
LAMB: CARCASS & PELTS
Carcass lamb sales for the week, as of 11/07/2013: 45# and down
weight carcasses 4.90 higher; 45-65# carcasses 7.98 to 8.73 higher;
65# and heavier carcasses were 2.53 to 3.34 higher. The estimated
National Lamb Carcass Cutout Report was 8.69 higher compared to
last week at 290.30.
Pelt prices were steady to firm on premium type pelts, while
steady to weak on lower classes.
