INTRODUCTION

5(< INTRODUCTION
Before the first millennium, the 'hinese cooled their food and drinks with harvested ice. The /omans, %reeks, and )ebrews placed large amounts of snow into storage pits dug into the ground covered with wood and straw for insulation. The ancient Egyptians filled earthen jars with boiled water and e;posed the jars to the night air for their coolingF and in #GGD, cooling of wine by adding chemicals such as sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate to water was first recorded. 2t was also in those same records that the first use of a word meaning ,to refrigerate. appeared.

5(5 LATHE

1athes are the machine tools designed primarily to do turning, facing and boring. Hery little turning is done on the other type of the machine tools, and none can do it with e8ual facility. Because lathes also can do facing, drilling and reaming, their versatility permits several operations to be done on a single setup of the work piece. 'onse8uently, the lathe is the most common machine tool.
