“Reinventing Morse: Build your own Telegraph” Reading List and Bibliography
"Reinventing Morse: Build your own Telegraph" is a science kit that integrates invention and history along
side science, technology, and math. Part of the creative process of designing our science kits is to do as
much research as possible into the history of the invention and the inventor as well as the science behind
the invention. To that end we have collected and read the following books relating to Morse, the Telegraph,
and Invention in general. Some of these books also cover other inventions such as the Light Bulb and
inventors like Thomas Edison and thus appear on other reading lists as well.
Many of these books are out of print, or are rare but you still may find them at your local library, used book
store, via eBay, or via used books sold on Amazon.com and other websites.
Without a doubt, our favorite book from this list is "The Victorian Internet." It does a great job of painting a
picture of what the world was like pre-telegraph, during the rise of the telegraph, and how it influenced our
world today.
We also found "Principles of Electricity applied to Telephone and Telegraph Work" from 1938 to be very
fascinating. It is amazing how advanced some of the telephone technology had become by 1938. This book
has some very neat diagrams, and is a MUST HAVE for anyone building a library of electronic history books.

And now without further ado, here is the list of books we used in researching our science kit, we hope you
enjoy!
