professional athletes), small groups, or entire teams. NSD has some of Calgary’s most sought after
personal trainers ready to design specific programs that suit your needs, goals and abilities. Our
personal trainers have helped many achieve their goals through increased muscle mass, over all
strength and endurance, definition, quality of life and metabolism. Results from regular training are
typically weight management, decreased stress levels and performance-plateau breakthroughs.
Specific programs include balance, core, stabilization, agility, flexibility, cardio, resistance training and
strength training. Coupled with our leading edge equipment, our certified trainers will have you seeing
and feeling results in no time. Invest in some “sweat equity” and let us design a program specific to
your body’s needs and capabilities, regardless of age, skill or experience.

BOXING
Boxing

DALE “COWBOY” BROWN

Director of Boxing
After years of success in the prize ring, it’s obvious that Dale made the right decision
to become a boxer, because he is currently one of the top cruiserweights in the
world, and on the doorstep to winning his first world Cruiserweight title. He is no
stranger to this doorstep, as he stepped into the ring for the third time for a shot
at the title on May 20, 2005. Brown hoped that the third time would be the charm
when he squared off against talented O’Neil Bell for the vacant IBF cruiserweight
championship at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. After 12 spirited rounds, the judges
didn’t see things his way, and he lost a controversial unanimous decision. After the bout, fans and media
made their voices known as they protested the verdict. It gave Brown the extra push he needed to keep
chasing his dream of becoming a world champion. National Sports Development is proud to have Dale’s love
for Boxing and years of experience to create workouts and programs that benefit all ages.

NSD offers best in class technical boxing training, under the direction of Dale “Cowboy”
Brown. These boxing programs give athletes the necessary tools to develop and increase all
major components of athletic ability; including endurance, strength, speed (power), aerobic
and anaerobic conditioning. Not only will athletes see physical improvement but they will also
experience improved self-confidence, self-discipline, coordination and agility.
**Please Note there is NO Pro-Rating for these classes.
**You must have hand wraps for these classes. They can be purchased at the NSD ProShop.

HOCKEY
Hockey

Rick Alexander
Director of Hockey
Rick Alexander has over 35 years of hockey experience as both a player and a
coach. He played for a number of Calgary Junior teams before playing in Germany,
wherein he was selected to coach a Division 2 team which he led to play-offs
three consecutive years. He then became the youngest Division 1 coach and led
his team to play-offs, which was the first in club history. Rick continued his career
as Head Coach and General Manager of several teams throughout Germany and
Switzerland, and brought each team to play-offs or further. Rick moved back
to Canada and tried to retire in 1996 but was recruited by another Swiss team to help bring them to
play-offs. He led them to play-offs and continued to finals. This set a new trend for Rick, and four more
teams brought him in to coach their teams to play-offs. After returning again to Calgary, Rick managed
and coached several Elite Hockey Development Programs for all age levels and currently brings his wealth
of coaching experience to National Sports Development. His coaching style and extensive knowledge is a
welcomed asset to the organization.

Nels Eckland
Director of Hockey Operations
Nels Eckland brings a wealth of amateur hockey experience to NSD both as a player
and coach. After playing at the Junior level for 4 full seasons, he moved directly
into coaching. Since that time, he has coached Bantam right through all three levels
of Junior hockey (Major Jr., Jr. A and Jr. B). He has also spent numerous summers
instructing at hockey schools, skill development clinics and elite selection camps,
