Introduction

1.1 Background

Until now, problems regarding to the miscommunication in aviation industry are still one of the major cause of accidents. In most of the countries, they are using English language as the main language for communication purpose. Therefore, failing to master basic of English sentence structure can also contribute to an enormous disaster. For many cases, miscommunications between pilots and air traffic controllers are an international problem. The main source of aviation human factors research is the United States of America which has the worlds largest aviation industry. Simplest example, the TWA crash at Dulles in 1974. This accident was caused by communication ambiguity on part of both the pilots and controllers, resulting in the misunderstanding of each others responsibilities

1.2 Statement of Problem a) How the problem in English Structure effect the aviation staff in Spirit? b) To determine the level of English Structure applied by the aviation staff in Spirit c) What are the consequences that will happen to the company when the staff is using wrong English Structure?

1.3 Purpose of Study The purpose of this investigation is: 1. To explore the use of grammatical structure and sentence patterns among people in the workplace 2. To identify the frequency of using correct sentence structure when communicating in the workplace 3. To study on the importance of using correct sentence structure when communicating among the people in the workplace. 4. To determine to what extent the usage of correct sentence and structure in needed.
1.4 Scope and Limitation a) This study investigates the consequences of using wrong English Structure to the aviation staff in Spirit and to the company itself. This study will not deal with the factor that cause the wrong usage of English Structure to occur. Besides that, due to time limitation, the consequences of this problem to the relationship of spirit with other company is not observed in this study.

Literature Review Methodology

For this research, a questionnaire was designed and it has been approved. The questionnaire contains 20 items and it was made and designed to obtain data of English Usage in aviation industry. Basically, the respondents were from the Administration Department, which consists of 25 respondents. They were chosen from this department because of the more frequent usage of English in their daily business.
