No Video/Audio LCD/PDP Firmware Update

Overview
Problem TVs: 2006 LCD, PDP, & MDPs that use the ARM CPU & Macronix Flash Memory. Symptom: During a specific date range the customer may turn on the TV and there will be no video or audio. The problem will first occur: Jun 20th, 2006, 14:03 ~ Jun 21st, 08:14 Then it repeats every 194 days. Solution: Temporary fix is a hard reset (unplug for 3 minutes). New firmware is available as a permanent fix. The update needs to be done by a service center or factory service. Models: 32LC2D, 37LC2D, 42LC2D, 42PC3DV, 42PC3DVA, 42PC3D, 50PC3D, 50PX2D, 50PX2DC made between March 1, 2006 and April 30, 2006. Check Current Firmware

With Service Remote Press the IN-START button. The current firmware will be listed on the service menu

With User Remote Press Menu and highlight the Cable option in the menu. Now press the 0 (zero) button three times. Scroll through the Diagnostics Menu and find the software version. Check Baud Rate of TV


With the Service Remote Press the IN-START button. Scroll down to Baud Rate. Make sure it is set to 115200.

With the User Remote Turn the TV. Then press Menu on the remote and the TV the same time. If a screen different than the one to the right is shown, try again. Scroll down to Baud Rate and make sure it is set to 115200.

1) Connect the computer to the TVs RS-232C port using a female-to-female Serial Null Modem Cable.

Note: Not all female-to-female serial if it's null modem. It should have "Null" or "NM" stamped on the connectors if it's null modem. A normal male-to-female Serial cable also works when used with a Null Modem adapter.

2) Start DTVLab by double-clicking DTVLab.exe.

Firmware Update 3)Click Set Property and small dialog box will open. This allows you to change the port and Baud Rate.

Set the Baud Rate to 115200 and change the Com Port to COM1. Now click Ok and then Connect.

4) If the software was able to connect to the TV, the model and current firmware revision will be shown.

To open the TVs debug mode, a password is needed. The password is the TVs full model number. Type it and press enter. Example: If model is 42PC3D, you would type in 42PC3D-UD. See the next page for a list of passwords and download files that are needed.

Firmware Update 5) Type in the capital letter D to show the debug menu.

Then type F0 to enter download mode, then choose 1

6) Now the TV is ready to accept the firmware. Click the program button. Then choose the correct update file.

7) The file will be copied to the TV. Once downloaded to the TV, the file will be expanded and then flashed into memory. This will take several minutes to complete.

8) Once complete, click disconnect. Manually reboot the tv.

9) Verify the TV was updated with the correct firmware by opening the service menu (Refer to page 2).
