You will also learn about the Academic Statement, a new college wide initiative to support students in articulating and reaching their educational goals. The Academic Statement is a graduation requirement for all incoming undergraduates. Community to Community Day of Caring: National Problems, Local Solutions ................ Red Square Organized by Evergreens Center for Community Based Learning and Action (CCBLA) in collaboration with the United Way of Thurston County and Day of Caring. Get to know Olympias most powerful non profit organizations by contributing an afternoon of your time. Examples include gleaning vegetables from organic farms for donation to the food bank, pulling invasive species from protected watershed, or replying to book requests from prisoners. Pre-registration recommended for a space on the bus! Evergreens faculty will introduce you to the Colleges philosophy of teaching and learning. You will learn more about what makes Evergreen a unique place to study and participate in a thriving and active intellectual community. Activities will include discussing Convocation speaker David Isays keynote address to the College (which will be available as a recording on Evergreens website), and his edited collection, Listening is an Act of Love. Youll begin to practice listening in the manner that Isay teaches, by listening carefully to one another. Youll also start to write about your own educational experiences thus far and begin to envision your future as a college student and beyond. You will also learn about the Academic Statement, a new college-wide initiative to support students in articulating and reaching their educational goals. The Academic Statement is a graduation requirement for all incoming undergraduates. You will work on this statement periodically through your years at Evergreen, and the final version will become part of your college transcript. 4pm-8pm Downtown Scavenger Hunt ............................................................................................... Meet at the HCC Team up to explore downtown Olympia and learn the Intercity Transit system while competing in a scavenger hunt. Bring your student ID with your fall sticker (with this pass, you can ride the bus for free) and a cellphone camera (only one person per team needs this). "A" building Come build a no-stress kit and get ready for the school year to start. Make stress balls, learn about aromatherapy, and get some time management tips.
