Biogas

Biogas consists of:

- Methane CH4: 45 - 70% - Carbon dioxide CO2: 30 - 55% - Sulphur hydrogen H2S: 5 25,000 ppm - Humidity H2O: saturated - Take care about it!

11

Critical for Biogas Engines

Humidity
- Biogas - saturated with almost 100% moisture can cause: - Corrosion - block pipes, filters,

H2S/Sulphur in the Biogas

- Reduced Oil lubricity y - SOx + H2O > Corrosion - Deposits in exhaust gas heat exchanger
Clean vs. Deposits + Corrosion
12

Critical for Biogas Engines

Humidity - Biogas treatment gas cooling/drying

Active gas cooling: With Cooling Unit

Passive gas cooling: Longer underground biogas pipe

Gas cooling/drying Example Gas volume Gas temperature IN/OUT Elec. power for cooling system Investment costs approx. 236 Nm3/h 40/10 C C 3.6 kW 34,500.- $

For low and medium H2S contamination - Consider max. air volume - H2S reduction is not constant - The additional air increase corrosion activity
14

For high g H2S contamination\ - The additional air increase corrosion activity - H2S reduction is stable - Higher investment costs
-

Critical for Biogas Engines H2S Biogas treatment - Desulphurization Air dosing g view inside a digester g tank

Biological desulphurisation the H2S will be converted into sulphur
