Rating points The engines layout fields for MC-series diesel engines are defined by the power/speed rating points L1, L2, L3, L4 (see diagram below). L1 is the nominal maximum continuous rating (MCR). Any power and speed within the respective engine layout field may be selected as the Contract - MCR (CMCR) point for an engine.

Fuel consumption All brake specific fuel oil consumptions (SFOC) are quoted for fuel of lower calorific value 42.7 MJ/kg (10 200 kcal/kg), and for ISO standard reference conditions (ISO 3046-1). The SFOC figures are given with a tolerance +5%. The values of power in kilowatts and fuel consumpion in g/kWh are the standard figures, and discrepancies occur between these and the corresponding brake horsepower (BHP) values owing to the rounding of numbers. ISO standard reference conditions Total barometric pressure 1.0 bar Air inlet temperature 25o C Charge air cooling-water temperature 25o C Relative humidity 60 %

Exhaust gas emissions All engines included in this booklet comply with the IMO TIER II speed-dependent NOx emission limitations measured according to the ISO 8178 test cycles E2, E3 or D2, as appropriate. The maximum NOx limit specified by IMO is a function of the rated engine speed, n:
Dimensions and masses * All dimensions in millimetres, not binding * t = The engine T mass is net in metric tonnes (t), without oil/water, not binding * Cylinder configurations: L = in-line , V = Vee-form Modifications may be introduced without notice The MC-series engines (MAN Diesel & Turbo design) can be provided with electronic fuel injection control, without a conventional camshaft and its drive. There are various fuel injection system designs available. The MC-series engines have hydraulically actuated injection pumps and exhaust valves with independent electronic control per cylinder. The type designation is ME....(-C). MC engines have been successfully used also in diesel electric power stations

Fuel consumption All brake specific fuel oil consumptions (BSFC) are quoted for fuel of lower calorific value 42.7 MJ/kg (10 200 kcal/kg), and for ISO standard reference conditions (ISO 15550 and 3046). The BSFC figures are given with a tolerance +5%, without engine-driven pumps. RT-flex engines have a lower part-load fuel consumption than the corresponding RTA engines. All RT-flex engines are also available with Dealta Tuning and some of them also with Low-load Tuning for even lower part-load fuel consumption (see chart).
BSFC
Standard tuning Delta tuning Low-load tuning
Typical BSFC curves to illustrate Standard Tuning,Delta Tunning and Low-Load Tunning.
Delta Tuning and Low-Load Tuning both take advantage of the complete flexibility in engine setting provided by the RT-flex common-rail system to optimize fuel injection pressures and timing at all loads. Delta Tuning focuses in reducing BSFC in the operating range below 90% engine load. Low-Load Tuning further reduces BSFC in the operating range below 75% engine load by means of a modified turbocharging system layout in combination with appropriately adjusted RT-flex system parameters.

Exhaust gas emissions All engines included in this booklet comply with the NOx limits specified in Annex VI of the MARPOL 73/78 convention. These regulations under IMO Tier I, Tier II and Tier III are shown below:
According to the provisions of the MARPOL convention 73/78, the engines installed in ships constructed on or afret 1 January 2011 have to fulfil the IMO requirements for Tier II. All Wartsila-licensed engines included in the Diesel Engines Programme fulfil these requirements. Compliance with the IMO Tier II NOX emissions limits involves a small increase in fuel consumption compared with the BSFC with the Tier I limits. RT-flex electronically-controlled common-rail low-speed engines will comply with the Tier II emissions limits with a smaller increase in fuel consumption than RTA low-speed engines. Cylinder lubrication The load-depended accumulator cylinder lubricating system has proven reliable in operation since its introduction in the 1970s. It is still in use specially on RT low-speed engines of smaller bore. To enable lubricating oil feed rates to be reduced the accumulator system has been further developed in recent years. The new Pulse Lubricating System (Feed or Jet) with electronic control of lubricating timing has been developed. It is available all RT-flex low-speed engines and for selected RTA engines. The guide lubricating oil feed rate with the Pulse Lubricating System is 0.7-0.8 g/kWh. This allows important savings in engine operationg costs. Dimensions and weights - All dimensions are in millimeters and are not binding - The engine weight is net in metric tones (t), without oil water, and is not binding Modifications may be introduced without notice.

General information
Nominal Rating (MCR) The engine ratings quoted remain valid up lo tropical conditions: Blower inlet temperature 45 C Blower inlet pressure 1,000 mbar Charge air coolant temperature 32 C
For more demanding ambient conditions, please contact MAN Diesel, Copenhagen or the engine builder.
Engine Application The engine ratings and speeds shown are based on generator drive. For other drives, such as mechanical drive of mills, pumps, compressors, etc., please contact MAN Diesel, Copenhagen or the engine builder.
The diesel generator set ratings and heat rates shown are depending on actual generator make and therefore for guidance only.
Site Specified Rating L1 > site specified rating > L2 The engine may be operated without restriction at any load up to site specified rating. Operating at overload rating, i.e. 110% of the site specified rating, is permissible for one hour every 12 consecutive hours.
Engine Heat Rate The figures specified in the table refer to mechanical output and to ISO 3046/1-2002 ambient conditions: Blower inlet temperature 25 C Blower inlet pressure 1,000 mbar Charge air coolant temperature 25 C For other ambient conditions, please contact MAN Diesel, Copenhagen or the engine builder. Fuel Oil Consumption Guarantee - MC-S Engines The MCR heat rate guaranteed by MAN Diesel is subject to a tolerance of 5% at ISO 3046/1 -2002 ambient conditions. For other ambient conditions and for engines with emission control or TCS, please contact MAN Diesel, Copenhagen or the engine builder.
Turbocharger Choice Two-stroke low speed engines can be delivered with MAN Diesel, ABB or MHI turbochargers as standard.

Fuel consumption All brake specific fuel oil consumptions (SFOC) are quoted for fuel of lower calorific value 42.7 MJ/kg (10 200 kcal/kg), and for ISO standard reference conditions (ISO 3046-1). The SFOC figures are given with a tolerance +5%, without engine-driven pumps. The values of power in kilowatts and fuel consumpion in g/kWh are the standard figures, and discrepancies occur between these and the corresponding brake horsepower (BHP) values owing to the rounding of numbers. ISO standard reference conditions Total barometric pressure 1.0 bar Air inlet temperature 25o C Charge air cooling-water temperature 25o C Relative humidity 60 % Exhaust gas emissions All engines included in this booklet comply with the IMO speed-dependent NOx emission limitations measured according to the ISO 8178 test cycles E2, E3 or D2, as appropriate. The maximum NOx limit specified by IMO is a function of the rated engine speed, n:
