Electronic Newsletter for Wyomings OUT-OF-OPTIONS Furkids

October 28, 2013

e-WOOF is a bi-monthly

e-newsletter produced by a small group of Wyoming dog rescuers in an effort to highlight shelter dogs in critical need of help.

Sheridan, WY Contact: ewoof@wyoming.com JOEY is a typical Heeler mix...very exuberant and full of energy.
He is about 2 years of age and is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He gets along with with people and other dogs - but probably would not be a good fit for a home with cats.

e-WOOF spotlights many dogs that face euthanasia within days unless they are rescued, fostered, or adopted.
Transport can be arranged, in most cases, to approved adoptive or foster homes or rescue organizations. Please help us! These are good, healthy, happy, loving dogs that are out of luck and out of time. We urge you to crosspost to e-mail lists and Web groups, forward to friends, send to co-workers, and share with family. We hope our efforts, combined with yours, will save many lives.

JOEY

BUSY is a Border Collie mix, approximately 1 to 1-1/2 years of age. She is spayed, and up to date on vaccinations. The ideal home for Busy would be one where she could spend her days and nights with her person. She is a fairly quiet little dog - about 35 to 40 pounds. Busy has been at the boarding facility now for several months and would love to have her own home. She is going to be an easy dog to live with and shows no desire to leave home. ____________

Time can be extended if a place is found and transport is being arranged. OTHER: In critical need of help but does not fit in another category (i.e., hit by car, needs donations for emergency surgery). UPDATE: Good news.

ATHENA came to us very skinny and neglected. This sweet girl had SKILLET been tied up outside for days in the pouring rain with no food, shelter, or water. When the police brought her to us, you could almost see the relief in her eyes! She has come a very long way since then. She is active and loving, and loves to go for walks. She never had much training in her previous home, so she does need a little bit of work. With a little bit of patience and love she would become a wonderful companion!

Park County Animal Shelter -- Cody, WY Contact: 307-587-5110 or manager@parkcountyanimalshelter.com FERN is a beautiful 1- year old Red Nose Pit Bull. She is very affectionate and sweet. This poor little girl was found tied to a guard rail in Wind River Canyon before she was brought to us. She would probably be best in a home with no other dogs and no cats. She is a dream dog with children! She was adopted out to a family with young children, but came back simply because she didnt want to play with the children. The family wanted a dog to play fetch with the kids, but Fern is just a loving girl who was more interested in being affectionate and just being near the children than she was in playing with them. ____________ Longmont Humane Society - Longmont, CO Contact: 303.772.1232, ext. 243 or lexi@longmonthumane.org SWEETIE. We are currently seeking rescue for Sweetie, a 4 year old female great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mix. Please let us know if you can help Sweetie or know of an organization that can. Here is a note from our behavior trainer as to why we are seeking rescue:
Sweetie was originally surrendered to LHS in May of 2011 because she was fighting with the other dog in the home. At LHS, Sweetie was dog social, but concerned about new people. She spent time in our Training and Behavior program to make her more comfortable with strangers and we adopted Sweetie out and she was returned because she was eliminating in the home, barking, and lunging at children on-leash, and snapped at an adult visitor to the home. The previous owners indicated that Sweetie was great with the mentally handicapped child in the home and would allow him to lay on her, pull on her ears, and use her as a pillow. Sweetie lived successfully with 3 cats, but was the only dog in the home. ____________ SWEETIE

Time is of the essence for helping the dogs featured in the e-WOOF newsletters. Please contact the name/numbers for each dog before contacting eWOOF. In most cases, time is limited for the dogs featured in our newsletters--with that in mind, we try to get the word out to as many contacts as we can using this publication. Work on behalf of the animals for finding them homes and/ or rescues comes from many, many sources and is an ONGOING effort dealt with a sense of urgency. In some cases there may be times when a sudden adoption and/or rescue comes through at the exact time our newsletter is issued. This is an unforeseen circumstance on our part--while we certainly understand the crossover may cause frustrations for you as the prospective adopter of an animal we hope you join us in rejoicing for an animal being saved. We appreciate and thank you for your continued support FOR THE

She has so much love to give to the lucky family who adopts her. Shadie is not very fond of men but likes the ladies. She is a very sweet girl and a little timid when you first meet her but then she warms up to you. She is good with other dogs her size and likes cats. She walks wonderfully on a leash and will even sit for a treat. Shadie likes to chase toys but doesnt play with them much; she would rather sit next to you and get some love. She is spayed and current on vaccinations. MILES is a small black twenty-two-month-old Kelpie/Aussie mix who had not been handled or played with as a pup. Since he came in last October, we have been working hard to get him used to human interaction and enjoying attention. is a very nice dog and never showed any aggression even though he was terrified. He is always wagging his little stubby tail and wiggles his whole body to show how much he likes your attention. He might do best in a quiet home as the only dog and most definitely needs a very gentle, patient person. He is neutered and current on vaccinations.

Jerky treat mystery: Nearly 600 pets dead; still no source, FDA says
JoNel Aleccia NBC News Oct. 22, 2013 at 12:53 PM ET

Toby, a 6-year-old Boston terrier (photo courtesy The Mawaka family), died in 2012 after his owners say he was sickened by chicken jerky pet treats made in China. Nearly 600 pets have died and more than 3,600 have been sickened in an ongoing, mysterious outbreak of illnesses tied to jerky treats made in China, federal animal health officials said Tuesday. Most of the cases have been in dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes although 10 cats have been sickened, too after eating chicken, duck and sweet potato jerky treats. The pace of the reported illnesses appears to have slowed, but federal Food and Drug Administration officials are now seeking extra help from veterinarians and pet owners in solving the ongoing puzzle. by Christine Zidas Its Halloween, and its time to dress up Can you imagine anything worse for a pup? These humans like costumes, candy, and such For doggies like me, it all seems a bit much My masters I keep happy by wagging and tricks By barking and jumping, and catching those sticks. Is it too much to ask they forget doggie clothes? It messes my fur and detracts from my nose. They want me so scary, a pirate this year Swashbuckler with patch, a mean dog with a snear, But Im meant for joy and for keeping things light Is is too much to be costume-free for one night? A Halloween dog, oh it just should not be I cant wait for November to go back to just me.
