Drugs are an issue in Malaysia and it seem to increase, it seems to be contradicting with a ever so harsh punishments and penalties

for whoever are involved or caught distributing the drug supplies. Specifically to be concerned is the rapid increase of methamphetamine, the growing of this drug was said to be the highest in 2010, it was holding the highest drug consumption compared to the other substances. Over the years, the only main concern was heroin it was frequently used, it still continues to be the biggest and largest abused drug in Malaysia, and it seems that the other drugs in the industry seems to be catching up in time to come.

During the 1960s substance abuse in this country only consisted of opium, and it was strictly controlled to the Chinese immigrant society. In the 1980s the Malays had joined the ethnic group in this country, that also abused this illegal drugs. There were many concerns for the tremendous increase for this drug heroin, it was so high used that even the government declared that it was a national threat. This eventually led to the making of a national anti drug task force team, which came along with a strict rule of death sentence for whoever caught smuggling or carrying heroin more den 15 grams. The government stated that who ever gets caught carrying using or consuming heroin would be pushed into going to rehab for compulsory addiction treatment. The goal for the Malaysians government is to completely resolve these drug problems by the year 2015, but it seems yet that this problem is some ways or other seems to be getting worse.

Almost of all illegal drugs that are being used in Malaysia actually involves mainly heroin. According to the records recorded in the year 2006 shows that there has been 22,811 substance abuse users who have been officially detected and recognized, and this

had been good news for the government since in the previous year of 2005 there were 34,813 cases detected. The majority drug users have been said to be living mostly in two states, which is Pulau Pinang and Kedah. Also, according to the reading of the records, its said that at least 1.1 percent of the Malaysian society is involved in drug abuse.

There are many upcoming drugs and commonly abused drugs in the market now in Malaysia. This includes, heroin as mentioned earlier is the most used illegal drug in Malaysia currently. Methamphetamine is actually second upcoming drug most widely used illegally in this country. Apparently there has been a study that amphetamine type stimulant that is also catching up in the market. Kratom is another sought of drug that actually comes from a tree that can be commonly found in South East Asia, it has an opiate-type kind of effect. The rest of the illegal drugs that is also consumed consist of cannabis, kata mine and ecstasy.

Drug abuse and addiction in this country actually does instill big problems and difficulties for the consumer and the individuals family. The root of this fundamental problem is behavior. These substances are needed to be taken or consumed by the individual at a consisted state for them to be depended on it, it only takes the individual to be physical and psychological depended for these illegal drugs to influence and destroy their life. These drug users, most of them are financially stunted, and this is when they will turn to crime in order for them to sustain themselves with drugs. This young generation who become depended on these illegal substances are limiting themselves for their own future dream and possibilities in life.

During the 1990s the cure to overcome these addicts, the government has enforced rehabilitation centers. Such places are, Rumah Ikhtiar and Narcotics Anonymous. These centers aims to reintegrate the addict back into normal lifestyle and could be accepted into society. In these kinds of places, it is where they are thought the art of living skills, and also enquire other types of training.
