For Administrators & Educators: Foodcore LGL is looking for input from you and your students! Foodcore LGL is a partnership of people and organizations from the food, farming, and community sectors working together to create a Food Charter for Leeds, Grenville and Lanark. A Food Charter is a document shaped by community members that describes local values and priorities concerning food. It can be used by schools to teach children and youth about how food works in our community and can provide opportunities for students to have input into food related issues including: access to food, our environment, our farming economy, community development and celebrating food. In November, Foodcore will be conducting an on-line consultation. You can use this as an opportunity to start a conversation about food in your classroom. We would be happy to help you to host a consultation with teachers or students at your school. To find out more please visit: www.foodcoreLGL.ca. We hope to work with you to make this food charter reflect our education systems needs! For Families: Prevent the spread of infection! Hand hygiene is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of infection. Use an alcohol based hand rub or soap and water frequently throughout the day. Hand hygiene is especially important after using the bathroom, before you eat or prepare food, after touching an animal, after handling garbage, and after blowing your nose, sneezing, or coughing. Alcohol based hand rubs are considered the gold standard for general hand hygiene. They should contain at least 62% alcohol to effectively kill germs on hands. However, when hands are visibly dirty, washing with soap and water is the most effective way to clean hands. Soap and water works by removing germs from hands, while an alcohol based hand rub kills the germs. If it is not possible to wash with soap and water when hands are visibly dirty, first remove dirt with a moist cloth and then use an alcohol based hand rub. It is up to all of us to help prevent the spread of infection. Lets work together and keep hands clean! For more information, please visit: http://www.healthunit.org/infectious/.
