--------------------------II. GENERAL PRODUCT ISSUES --------------------------INSTALLING TO A DIRECTORY ------------------------We recommend installing Print Artist 4.5 to the default location. If you choose to install 4.5 to a different directory, we recommend using a directory with an 8 character name or less, since long file names are converted to DOS File names . For example, Program Files becomes PROGRA~1. This might make it difficult t o differentiate between similarly named directories when browsing for graphics t o import. Please note: There is a hard-coded limit of 68 characters for the dir ectory path. For example, the following path is too long: "c:\ my favorite prog ram files\productivity programs\printing programs\print artist\PA 45"

USING PRINT ARTIST 4.0 DOCUMENTS IN PRINT ARTIST 4.5 ---------------------------------------------------Print Artist 4.5 will read Print Artist 4.0 documents. Both PA 4.0 and PA 4.5 do cuments have the following file extensions: .BAN .BC .CAL .CER .CRF .ENV .GC .LBL .LTH .PC .SGN banner business card calendar certificate craft envelope greeting card labels letterhead postcard sign

To use a Print Artist 4.0 document in Print Artist 4.5, Run PA 4.5 and click the "Open an existing document" button on the toolbar. Please note any imported im ages that are used in PA 4.0 documents will have to be imported into PA 4.5 in o rder for PA 4.5 to display the proper graphic with the file. To import images i n PA 4.5, use the Import command from the File menu. GRAPHICS GRABBER ERRORS ----------------------Errors may occur if Print Artist is shut down while rebuilding the Graphics Grab ber. If an error occurs when the "Updating the GraphicsGrabber" dialog is on sc reen, rebuild the database. To rebuild the database, follow these steps: 1. Exit Print Artist. 2. Find the files named PAWIN.INI and PIXRES.CSH by using the Find utility in th e Windows Start Menu or browsing with Windows Explorer. 3. Delete the PAWIN.INI and PIXRES.CSH files. These are temporary files and wil l not affect any projects you created. 4. Hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys on the keyboard while restarting Print Arti st. Continue to hold the keys until the "Updating Graphics Grabber" dialog appe ars. Print Artist should now function normally. If you have problems viewing graphics that you have imported using the CD Grabbe r method, you can also import the graphics using the Import command in the File menu. GRAPHICS GRABBER CATEGORIES --------------------------Use the Descriptions of Graphics Categories in Help and the User Manual as refer ence only. Some categories will not show up if you have not added graphics from GraphicsGrabber CDs that belong with these categories. Once the graphics from the GraphicsGrabber CDs are used in a project, the category will be added to the GraphicsGrabber to help you find and use the same graphic without requiring the CD. LABELS -----Labels:

Problem: The labels in the print preview screen are off the print preview screen . This happens with all labels. Solution: Resize the print dialog so that it is bigger. Problem: The edges of labels are cut off when printed, but display properly in t he Print Preview. Solution: Check your printer margins or the margin setup in Print Artist. Some p rinters have the margins hard-coded and cannot be changed. You may want to conta ct your printer manufacturer for more information about changing the margins. Problem: The printed labels do not line up correctly on the pre-cut Avery stock. Solution: Resize the dimensions to be a little bigger than the actual cutout on the papers. To do this, open your label document. Go to Edit, Change Dimensions. You can enter custom dimensions for any label. Problem: Full page labels don't print properly. Solution: If your printer cannot print to the edge of the paper, edit the dimens ions of the document. To do this, open your label document. Go to Edit, Change D imensions. You can enter custom dimensions for any label. Change the dimensions to the following measurements: Width: 8.0 Height: 10.5 Margins: Right and left: 0.25 Top and bottom: 0.25 You can set up CardsPlus to create other labels besides the ones listed in the c ategories. First select any blank or premade project in Specialty Products. For best results select one with similar dimensions as the paper you wish to print o n. Go to the Edit menu and select Change Dimensions from the pull down list. Typ e in the dimensions in inches of the particular paper type you wish to use. Then make any changes to the labels that you wish and print. Note: Label Dimensions will only go out to 3 decimal places, so round to the nearest place. DUPLICATE FONTS --------------Problem: The font menu is displaying multiple copies of the same font. Solution: Close the program and restart your system. This is related to Windows handling of font files. Problem: Some fonts do not appear to show up in the program's fonts palette or some premade layouts have letters that overlap or do not appear to be the correc t size for the document. Solution: Close the program. Click the Start button and select Programs and op en Windows Explorer. Under the C: drive open the Windows folder and then Open t he Fonts folder. Then close Windows Explorer and restart your program. Now al l fonts should show up in the Fonts Palette and show correctly on Premade layout s. This is related to Windows handling of font files. ENVELOPES --------Problem: Envelope print preview shows three pages with some printer drivers (e. g. Epson Color II printer) but prints correctly. Solution: Change dimensions of the envelope to the actual dimensions of the env elope you want to print on. The print preview will display correctly and the en

velope will print properly. For more information about changing the dimensions, please refer to the Help files or Manual. 68 CHARACTER LIMIT ON DIRECTORY PATHS -------------------------------------Problem: The graphic directory setup malfunctions after adding a path 12 direct ories deep. Solution: There is a hard-coded limit of 68 characters for a directory path name . Use a path name with fewer than 68 characters. ====================== III.
