He was the one who gave man the breath of life, or the spirit. Therefore, the spirit, or in other words the breath of life, goes back to God when a man dies. Job 27:3 Since the spirit of God is in the nostrils, it is the breath of life, because that is where Jesus breathed into man the breath of life. Job 33:4 The Spirit of God made us. The breath of the Almighty is what gives us life. John 5:28-29 When both the wicked and the righteous die, they go to their graves. Ezekiel 18:4, Job 4:17 We are mortal and we can die. 1 Timothy 6:16 Only God has immortality. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53, 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Faithful Christians will not receive immortality until the Lord returns.
