1) Liberal Feminism

So far, the three types of feminism we've covered are actually not very common. Most modern feminists consider themselves to be in the fourth and final category, which is liberal feminism. So what exactly is liberal feminism, if it's the most common type of feminism? Liberal feminism is a movement that believes all individuals should be free to explore equal opportunities and rights. It's really a pretty simple idea. Liberal feminists just want men and women to have equality in all situations, no more, no less. This means that liberal feminists would want to see equal pay for men and women and more representation of women in politics and business, just like other forms of feminism. However, liberal feminists are also willing to point out places and times when men are victims of sexism, and they want to end those problems as well. Liberal feminists would be willing to re-examine court decisions about child custody that favor women, for example, or be willing to pay for dates, acknowledging that it's not fair for men to pay all the time. Liberal feminists simply want people to be rewarded for their individual talents and efforts in a completely equal and fair manner. You can see that this form of feminism is the closest to our definition of feminism in general from the beginning of this lesson.
Equal rights for everyone and respect everyone. Total equality b/w men and women.

2) Radical Feminism
Perhaps the stereotype of feminists that we discussed before is most closely associated with our first type of feminism, called radical feminism. Radical feminism is a movement that believes sexism is so deeply rooted in society that the only cure is to eliminate the concept of gender completely. How would this be possible? Radical feminists suggest changes, such as finding technology that will allow babies to be grown outside of a woman's body, to promote more equality between men and women. This will allow women to avoid missing work for maternity leave, which radical feminists argue is one reason women aren't promoted as quickly as men. In fact, radical feminists would argue that the entire traditional family system is sexist. Men are expected to work outside the home while women are expected to care for children and clean the house. Radical feminists note that this traditional dichotomy maintains men as economically in power over women, and therefore, the traditional family structure should be rejected. Radical feminism believes in eliminating the concept of gender entirely.
