Please distribute ONE TOKEN to each child in your care during or just before the redemption period, which runs from 27 February - 25 March 2012. Explain to them that they can be swapped for a FREE specially-produced 1 W World Book Day book see page 4 for the titles for pre-school children in this pack OR use the voucher to get 1 off a full-price book or audio book priced 2.99 or more. Please also explain that the tokens are a gift from publishers, booksellers and National Book Tokens to help children all over the country celebrate W World Book Day. Yo Y u could also talk to children about which books they might like, and ask parents to do the same. Consider contacting your local bookshop to arrange a visit with your children to redeem their book tokens, or perhaps ask a bookseller to come and talk to your group about reading and books. Make a COLLAGE of photocopies of popular books, or assemble ble photos of each child with th their favourites.
Choose a simple theme for the dayfarmyard animals, pirates or trains, sayand use it as a base for all of your activities and stories.
Read and discuss a handful of popular books over the course of a day or a week. At the end, remind emind children about all the stories and hold a vote to decide their favourite one of all. ll. Reading is a great family activity so everyone can join in! WHAT BOOKS SHOULD I CHOOSE?
Reading together should be fun! Pick books that you u both en enjoy. y Y u can share picture books, chapter books, poetry and non-fiction. Yo There are lots to discover once you find out what interests your child. If you are struggling for choice pop along to a bookshop or your local library and choose books together. Ask friends or teachers for their recommendations.
If youre at home, why not sit closely together somewhere cosy and q iet so you can immerse yourselves in the qu e story story. Sharing a story together is also great if youre out and about. ut. Y You can share books anywhere on a train, in the park, or while youre waiting in a long shopping queue!
They are asking parents, carers, librarians, teachers and thousands of others nationwide to get involved by making a simple pledge: to share 20 books in 2012. This might be by reading to children in your library or early years setting, g, or sharing picture g books with your own children. Older pre-school children might like to tell their own stories in pictures. Assemble a short book using sheets of blank paper folded and stapled together, and discuss a story with the children. Each child could then draw a different page in the story to make it a class book.

The WINNING DESIGN will be made into a bookmark and distributed to thousands of bookshops nationwide.*
COMPETITION
National Book Tokens are the perfect way to inspire children to read. They create a lifelong passion for books by giving them the chance to discover millions of titles in bookshops across the country. untry. Using the measurements provided, ask children untry to design the front of a book-themed bookmark. A panel of judges will select a winner and runner-up from each of the three age ranges, along with an overall winner.
Each nursery or school should select their entries in the following age ranges: up to 8 years, 912 years and 1316 years. A first prize and runner-up prize will be awarded in each category. ategory ategory.

The winners will be announced in June and the closing date for entries is Friday 20th April 2012. N.B.
