Required material to buy: 1. Online myomlab course material and textbook can be purchased online or in the book store. Each student must purchase a myomlab code to participate in class (before 8/29). myomlab is an online homework, tutorial, and assessment system that accompanies your Pearson Education textbook. myomlab includes the access to the electronic textbook if you select the option. Printed textbooks (Heizer/Render: Operations Management, 10e) are also available in different forms at the beginning of the semester or later. Please read the details posted on Moodle General Info 2. Clicker: each student must purchase (or rent) and register a clicker to participate in class (before 8/29). Details are posted on Moodle General Info 3. Littlefield Technologies online game access code will be available to purchase also online or in the book store. Each student must purchase a code to participate in the team projects (deadline will be later as the teams are assigned). The details will be posted on Moodle General Info This is a partially web-based class, all materials, instruction, homework, quizzes and help functions are either on Moodle or on myomlab. Please check it regularly and use these opportunities. There will be several consultation and review classes to prepare for the homework, quizzes, online game, and exams. Different Moodle Forums are available for further consultations and online Q/A. The review classes are required to attend. There will be required class quizzes to answer by the clicker. They will provide essential information for the exams, solving the homework, quizzes, and prepare for the online game. The first two classes are required. Further required classes will be announced in Moodle (less than 60% of the classes). The consultation classes are not required to attend however they can provide valuable help in solving the homework, quizzes and prepare for the exams. The material of the consultation classes will be adjusted to the request of the participating students. Clicker bonus quizzes give the opportunity to get bonus points. It is your responsibility to follow and download the online information from Moodle. The 3 tests are taken electronically in Computer Test Center (CBT). You need to sign up for the tests. Please read the details posted on Moodle General Info myomlab provides students with a personalized interactive learning environment, where they can learn at their own pace and measure their progress. myomlabs homework and practice questions are correlated to the textbook, and they are regenerated algorithmically to give students unlimited opportunity for practice and mastery. Questions include multimedia learning aids for extra help at pointof-use, and they offer helpful feedback when students enter incorrect answers. myomlabs study plan helps students monitor their own progress, letting them see at a glance exactly which topics they need to practice. myomlab generates a personalized study plan for each student based on his or her test results, and the study plan links directly to interactive, tutorial exercises for topics the student hasn't yet mastered. Students can regenerate these exercises with new values for unlimited practice, and the exercises include guided solutions and multimedia learning aids to give students the extra help they need. Course Objectives: To familiarize the student with the general problems and concepts of operations management in production and service; how they relate to one another and to the other functional areas of an organization.

To work in groups on web-based business games to compete against other groups and explain the decisions connected to the course material. To enable the student to appropriately and correctly use basic quantitative techniques and interpret their managerial consequences.

Assessment: A ten point grading scale will be used. (90 - 100 A, 80 - 89.99 B, 70-79.99 C, etc.). The points are strict (no rounding up or curve) because bonus opportunity points (up to 5% bonus quiz plus bonus points for the best teams in the online game) are added to the total points in Moodle. There will be 3 exams in the Computer Based Test center (CBT) using myomlab (the 3rd exam is given during the final exam week). The exams have a similar format like the quizzes in myomlab . About 60% of the points come from conceptual and 40% from numerical problems. The Syllabus and Moodle provide detailed information about the chapters covered in each test and the suggested way to prepare for the tests. There will be six individual homework assignments based on numerical problems using myomlab. Here all the online help features of the myomlab system can be used so it provides an excellent learning and quiz-test preparation tool. There will be multiple attempts with different data sets and the best counts. There will be six quizzes using myomlab for at home solution with conceptual and numeric problems similar to the tests (60-40%). Here the online tools of myomlab are not available, but other materials can be used. There will be a limited time but multiple attempts (5) will be allowed and the best counts. The questions and problems are randomly selected, new questions for each attempt.. The two group assignments are two independent phases of a web based business game using separate online game software (Littlefield Technologies). Before the game a strategy (Word and Excel files) has to be submitted and then a 4-day continuous web game is played. There will be clicker Quizzes (required) at the required classes based on the material learned. There will be clicker Quizzes (optional) at the non-required classes based on the material learned. These provide bonus opportunities (up to 5% total) during but not after the semester. There are also bonus point opportunities for the best performer game teams A student who misses an exam has to provide an excuse. If the excuse is approved, a makeup exam time will be given in the next few days to take the missed exam. Students suspected of cheating or violating any academic policies in the LSU Code of Student Conduct will be turned in to the Dean of Students. (This includes assignments.) If you are a student receiving extra test time through the Office of Disability Services, it is your responsibility to make your instructor aware of this and make arrangement before the tests with the Office of Disability Services. 3 Exams Individual Assignments: 6 Homework Individual Assignments: 6 Quizzes 2 Team Assignments: web based business game game strategy and financial result Quizzes in class (clicker) Total Bonus quizzes (clicker) equally weighted equally weighted equally weighted equally weighted 60% 10% 10% 10% 10% 100% 5%
