3) Analysis of main circuits 1. Principles a. Power control Press POWER-ON on the panel, the host will be powered on. b. Working mode and switching control
3 X671D Ver.01-2010.03
The machine has 4 working modes: manual perspective, IBS perspective, common radiography, and pulse radiography, which are switched by the mode selection key on the panel. Manual perspective is the normal mode, from which the machine may enter into or exit from IBS perspective mode. The 4 working modes are similar in mA and kV setting, samplings, comparison, trigger pulse generation, and drive circuit. c. Manual perspective In normal manual perspective, settings of kV and mA are done through Perspective kV+/- and Perspective mA+/- respectively. After pressing the foot switch and confirming the computer is effective, main inversion and filament inversion will start to produce trigger pulse, and the complete machine will start working with load. After balance is reached between the set kV and mA and the sampling kV and mA, the complete machine will enter into a stable working state. If the perspective kV and mA settings are changed, it shall be necessary to reach the balance again. d. IBS perspective After entering into IBS mode, the manual perspective kV settings will become invalid. The IBS signal and brightness set the level comparison to create kV setting value. Press the foot switch, the machine will start working with load. At this time, only perspective mA adjustment is effective, and balance will be reached between sampling kV and mA and the set kV and mA. e. Photo exposure After entering into radiography mode, the computer will determine the set kV and mA values according to selected radiography condition parameters, switch D/A output through AD7524. After the hand brake is valid, raise temperature of the filament first, and the current used for raising the temperature is determined by corresponding kV and mA values. Different kV and mA values shall match different currents for filament temperature rise. After filament temperature rise completes, the main inverter circuit starts to be triggered to produce kV, and at the same time, the computer will measure mA (the mA sampling value is only 1/10 of that in perspective) and determine increase or decrease of the current for filament temperature according to mA value at the initial rise stage of radiography. f. Microcomputer detection X-ray high-voltage generator is controlled by way of Model-8031 Single-chip microcontroller, and when it is working with load, the microcomputer will monitor 7 parameters. If the detection result is beyond the allowable value, the host will stop working, and relevant failure codes will be indicated (see Table 5.1). g. Trouble-shooting
4 X671D Ver.01-2010.03
The failures include serious ones (in hardware) and minor ones (in software). Minor failures may be restored by pressing RESET, and serious failures include Err 01, Err 03 and Err 05, which must be examined while the machine is powered off. The machine can only be restarted to enter into normal working state after the failure is eliminated. h. Sampling The mA sampling of the machine is done by closed circuit of the tube current, and kV sample is obtained by resistance voltage divider in the oil box. Both kV and mA are sampled in +/- dual-edge way. 2. Power control (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL1) a. Standby state After the host is connected to the network source, the interface board transformer T2 will start working. T1 discharges AC 18V in secondary output, which will, after being rectified, filtered and stabilized, generate AC voltage of about 24V at both ends of C2. At this time, the switch I (ON key) and O (OFF key) are in off state, V5 is cut off, and K1 and KL are not working. b. Startup If I(ON keyis connected, the solenoids of K1 and KL will be energized after being switched on, and the relay K1 and KL will actuate. K1 has one group of contacts for self-sustaining and another group of contacts for KL to actuate. The AC 380V power after KL actuates will be connected to the host system. The AC 220V power that is provided by one phase line and one neutral will, through isolation transformer, provide power to various systems of the host in different voltage values. c. Shutdown If the switch O(OFF keyis connected, V5 will be cut off, K1 and KL will release, the AC 380V power will be cut off, the host will be disconnected from the network source and stop working. 3. DC power By way of switch power, the complete machine provides various kinds of DC low-voltage power for microcomputer system and control system, which include +5V, 15V, and zero potential. 4. Computerized control (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL2, X671D-00-DL3, X671D-00-DL4) The computer control chip uses single-chip microcomputer 8031. XTAL, C1 and C2 produce 12MHz host working frequency, and they will, after the machine starts up, produce power-on reset signals through C3, C4, C5 and R1-1, which are transmitted to reset port 8031 through D4. After pressing RES, the microcomputer system will be powered on and reset again. DA0DA7, as address lines, are connected with the address latch D2, and the data lines are connected with D1, D2, D3, D9, D10, D11, D12, D13, D16 and D20 respectively. ALE will control the address latch D2 to complete address and data separation, and P1 will be used to control the whole system.
5 X671D Ver.01-2010.03
D5 is the encoder, and it will give out chip select signals according to the address data of A10A15 to validate the chip selected by D9, D11, D12, D13, D16 or D20. D3 is read-only memory used to store control program, arithmetic constants, fixed variables and data. For the 2 external interrupts of the 8031, INT0 is used in malfunction interrupt, and INT1 is used in keyboard interrupt, which may reduce the main program cycle time and strengthen kV and mA monitoring and the reaction time of failure protection. D12 and D13 are D/A switching circuits, and the computer output data such as tube voltage, tube current and filament temperature rise value are converted by D12 and D13 into analog values that are delivered to the tube voltage adjustment and filament heating circuits. D9 is A/D switching circuit to monitor the changes in kV, mA and filament current. 5. Display and keyboard operation (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL3 X671D-00-DL4) Display is completed by D16SED1330LCD drive chip, and the keyboard scanning and indication are completed by D20 (8279). 6. Filament heating X671D-00-DL10) and filament current adjustment (circuit diagram
The power transformer sends AC40V voltage to filament board through XF1 and, after being rectified by V1, to provide power to the filament inversion transformer. The input voltage AC 10V provides power to the filament inversion trigger circuit after being rectified by V16. The filament inversion trigger signals that are given out by the adjustment board (X671-00-DL7) D3 is, after being isolated by optocoupler E2, sent to base electrodes of the filament board (X671-00-DL10) V9 and V20, and after being amplified and driven by V9 and V20, the trigger signals are sent to input ports of the trigger pulse transformer T2 and T3. Each trigger pulse transformer sends out two lines of cophasal trigger signal, and they will simultaneously trigger the field effect transistor diagonal to the inverter. The phases of the trigger signals sent out by the two trigger transformers have an error of 180, which may ensure that two field effect transistors at any edge will not be conducted at the same time to result in inversion short circuit. As the inverter has different trigger impulse width, the capacity it outputs to the loads (R and L shown in the drawing below, viz. filament transformer) will vary accordingly, so the filament current magnitude may change through adjusting the trigger impulse width. K1 and K2 on the filament board are used to switch between the large and small focuses. In perspective state, small focus will be used, and K1 and K2 will not act. In radiography state, large focus will be used, and K1 and K2 will actuate. For detailed principles of adjustment, refer to circuit descriptions in Tube current adjustment as stated below. 7. Tube voltage adjustment (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL6
6 X671D Ver.01-2010.03
In radiography mode, K2 in the adjustment board actuates, and the computer will output preset tube voltage digital value and, after being converted by D/A, output kV set value through N2D. In normal manual perspective mode, the circuit has the same working state as radiography. In IBS mode, K2 will actuate, IBS signal will, after comparing integral with the brightness set electric level, give kV set value through N2C, and the brightness set electric level may be regulated through R01 potentiometer (6V in general circumstances). The analog voltage value at the test point kV-set and the actual tube voltage keep a relation as 1V40kV, while the analog voltage value at the test point "kV-samp" is the actual tube voltage sampling value, and the sampling value and the actual tube voltage keep the same relation as 1V40kV. The set value and the sampling value are compared and amplified by operational amplifier N3: A to produce an error voltage and the error voltage will be sent to the pulse width modulator to be converted into two groups of 30 KHz trigger signal in different pulse width. The trigger signal is sent to IPM drive board and, after being isolated by optocoupler, drives IPM module for the inversion bridge to make inversion. The amplitude of the actual tube voltage is influenced by inversion current of the inversion bridge, and the amplitude of the inversion current is decided by the trigger pulse width at the same time. When the actual tube voltage value is less than the set value, the trigger pulse will become wider to raise the kV value near the set kV value. When the actual tube voltage value is larger than the set one, the trigger pulse will become narrower to down the actual kV value near the set one. The closed-loop adjustment of the tube voltage is then completed. 8. Tube current adjustment (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL7 In radiography mode, K1 actuates, and the computer will output preset tube current digital value and, after being converted by D/A, create mA-SET value through N1. The analog voltage value at the test point mA-set and the actual tube current keep such relation as: for model DHX-30: 1V 100mA, and for model DHX-50: 0.8V100mA (at the same time, at the test point mA-SAMP, the analog voltage value and the actual tube current keep such relation as: for model DHX-30: 1V 100mA, and for model DHX-50: 0.8V100mA). In normal manual perspective and IBS modes, except for K1, other circuits work in the same manner as in radiography mode, and the analog voltage value at the test point mA-set and the actual tube current keep such relation as: for model DHX-30: 0.8V 1mA, and for model DHX-50: 0.8V1mA (at the same time, at the test point mA-SAMP, the analog voltage value and the actual tube current keep such relation as: for model DHX-30: 0.8V 1mA, and for model DHX-50: 0.8V1mA). In radiography or perspective mode, the mA set value and sampling value will be compared and amplified at D3 (TL494) pulse width modulator input port. The produced trigger pulses in different width will drive the filament board to work after being isolated by E2 optocoupler, and to adjust the filament heating current and
7 X671D Ver.01-2010.03
finally change the anode current of the X-ray tube for the X-ray tube current to enter into closed-loop adjustment state. 9. Trigger and IPM inverter circuits (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL8 X671D-00-DL9) After being sent to the trigger board, the voltage AC220V will be transformed into AC15V by isolation transformer T1. After being rectified by V1 and V2 and filtered by C1 and C2, it will, through V3 and V4, form reference power supply for DC15V drive circuit. The main inversion trigger signal will, after being isolated by the optocoupler, be sent to the trigger board by the adjustment board and drive IPM module trigger port through E1 and E2. The DC310V voltage, which is transformed after the AC220 power is rectified and filtered, is added through LM1 to the Inversion Bridge that is made up of IPM intelligent module MODUL and MODUL. In exposure, the trigger pulse signals, after being driven, will trigger alternatively to produce AC output in the same frequency as the trigger signal. The inversion power has a trigger frequency of 30KHZ, and the width of the trigger pulse is determined after comparison operation is done between the kV set value and the actual kV sampling value. During kV setting process when exposure is done initially, the trigger pulse outputs in maximum pulse width, and after kV is set and stable, the trigger pulse will output in a comparatively narrow pulse width to maintain the energy that is required by output inverter load. 10. Circuit for high-voltage transformer unit and sampling circuit (circuit diagram X671D-00-DL9)
X671D Ver.01-2010.03
The primary output voltage of the high-voltage transformer T1, T2, T3, and T4 are connected the output port IV1 and IV2 of the main inverter. The secondary output voltage of T1 outputs voltage +U after it is rectified in double voltage and filtered by V1, V2, C1 and C2. The secondary output voltage of T2 outputs voltage +U after it is rectified in double voltage and filter by V3, V4, C3 and C4, and it forms kV+ after being connected in series. The secondary output voltage of T3 outputs voltage -U after it is rectified in double voltage and filtered by V5, V6, C5 and C6. The secondary output voltage of T4 outputs voltage -U after it is rectified in double voltage and filtered by V7, V8, C7 and C8, and it forms kV- after being connected in series. kV+ and kV- will, through mA sampling resistor, be earthed in neutral. R1 and R2 are sampling resistors of kV. T5 is the filament power transformer. The high-voltage equivalent circuit and kV and mA sampling circuit diagrams are shown in the drawing. When the power is in the positive half circle, it will charge C1, C3, C5 and C7. When the power is in the negative half circle, it will charge C2, C4, C6 and C8. The kV+ and kV- are earthed at the neutral point, kV+=+4*U kV--4*U, so the output kV=8U. The tube current will produce voltage drop when it flows through R36 (R37) and R38 (R39), and the voltage signal will be sent to mA closed-loop adjustment system after being amplified. The tube voltage is divided by R12-3R12-4 and R2R1 to transform high voltage into low voltage. After being amplified, it will be sent to kV adjustment circuit to join the main inversion closed-loop control, which is used to stabilize the tube voltage, and at the same time, it will be transmitted to the computer test port for kV monitoring. The filament transformer provides power to the large and small focuses respectively, and its switching is completed by K1 and K2 on the filament board. 11.
