At a time when images proliferate more than ever and information is a swipe of a screen away, a cars looks need to tell the right story, transmitting the values the brand wants to put across to the customer, the user and the observer. Ever since the DeZir concept car, shown in Paris in 2010, Renault has been developing a design philosophy based on its new brand

vision Drive the Change, intended to establish an emotional connection with the customer, while creating the right car for the different stages of life. The DeZir was the first of six petals in a flower Renault has built to symbolise the human life cycle. This same flower is now completed with the magnificent Initiale Paris, recently showcased in Frankfurt. The six stages are designed to meet drivers ever changing needs, from the

passions of youth, through to exploring the world and professional achievements before finally settling down and raising a family. This last stage is characterised by peace of mind and, most of all, by wisdom gained over the years. Renault believes the Initiale Paris concept car to be the answer to the many mobility issues that can arise at any moment, when children are a priority and quality of life is of major importance. Blending the prestigious image of a saloon, the character of a SUV and the practical elements of a minivan, the Initiale Paris is a fully fledged MPV, giving a glimpse of the next generation Espace, the car Renault will use to take on the premium segment and its established players not a big surprise considering the qualities of the current Clio and Captur, or the electric Zoe. This conceptual project, designed by Franois Leboine and supervised by Laurens van den Acker, Vice-President for Corporate Design, surprised the press and visitors at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show, given its departure from what is usually perceived as a car in this segment, while raising the possibilities of an MPV to a whole new level. Estas seis etapas pretendem acompanhar as necessidades em constante mudana de cada ser humano, desde as paixes do incio da vida, passando pela explorao do mundo, at realizao profissional e criao de uma nova famlia. O Initiale Paris um exerccio de estilo que nunca se afasta da importncia do contedo em demonstrao, contendo solues que tm tanto de extraordinrio como de aplicvel a um automvel de produo em srie. A marca no esconde que foi buscar inspirao arquitectura e ao mundo da aeronutica, pois nestes campos combinam-se dois elementos fundamentais no desenvolvimento futuro de todos os seus modelos: robustez e leveza. O design fludo e harmonioso resulta numa esttica que prima pela beleza e dinmica das linhas. Apesar de ser um concept car, o Initiale Paris uma clara indicao do que se pode esperar em termos estticos da verso de produo. that are both extraordinary and conceivable for a production car. The French manufacturer is confident about having taken inspiration from architecture and the world of aeronautics, as these fields work with two very important elements for all future Renault models: robustness and lightness. The flowing and harmonious lines of the design combine to create a shape that is both beautiful and dynamic. Although this is a concept car, the Initiale Paris is a clear indication of what can be expected from the production version in terms of market positioning and aesthetic solutions. Renault also wanted to remind the public that it is proud of its roots and that French cars, just like the country where they are

developed, are unique. The relationship with the city of Paris is even closer and more surprising than it would appear at first sight. The roof features a map of the city built on a plexiglass platform, focusing on the Parisian districts and, of course, the River Seine, whose banks saw the birth of the Renaults first automobiles. The rear profile reveals a combination of diamond-shaped elements reminiscent of the Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower, but the tie that most connects the Initiale Paris and the city that it is named after is the special kind of light they share. The stylistic direction of this concept revolves around the need to offer an exceptional travel experience and light is a fundamental part of a comfortable interior.

During the daytime, the interior is bathed in a beautiful display of light and shadows, while at night the lighting produces a soothing environment, where passengers can enjoy the trip, which becomes thus becomes as important as the destination. Form and function are closely related, revealing real solutions to important questions that arise when developing a vehicle aiming to be the benchmark in a segment Renault created almost thirty years ago in 1984 the Espace was the markets first MPV. Amethyst was the colour chosen because it can adapt to different shades and reflections, depending on the angle of the light and from where it is observed. Every exterior detail aims to evoke life and movement, in a clear nod to the French capital. Inside, most of the elements seem to be floating, creating a sense of lightness, innovation and technology. The digital screens blend into the high quality dashboard and show the direction Renault wants to take in this area.

The engine is a reworking of the wellknown dCI, now producing 130 horse power, linked to an efficient double clutch gearbox, allowing the French manufacturer to move a step closer towards its goal to reduce emissions across its entire range of vehicles. If the Initiale Paris was the beginning of something, surely the next Renault Espace will be a grand finale.

questes fulcrais na criao de um automvel que quer ser a referncia num segmento a que ele prprio deu origem em 1984 a Espace foi o primeiro MPV do mercado. A cor ametista foi escolhida pela sua capacidade de adoptar vrios tonalidades e reflexos, dependendo da incidncia da luz e do ngulo de observao e cada pormenor exterior pretende evocar vida e movimento, numa clara aluso capital francesa. No interior, os vrios elementos parecem flutuar, transpirando leveza, inovao e tecnologia. Os ecrs digitais fundem-se na consola central com materiais de alta qualidade, como a madeira mate, e mostram a direco que a Renault pretende tomar neste campo. O motor escolhido uma evoluo do conhecido dCI, agora com 130 cavalos, acoplado a uma eficiente caixa automtica de dupla embraiagem, por forma a seguir o objectivo da marca em reduzir ainda mais a pegada ecolgica dos seus veculos. Se o Initiale Paris foi o incio de algo, a prxima Renault Espace ser certamente um fantstico finale.
