Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost

This season, which really is a continuation of Ordinary Time (1), lasts twenty to twenty four Sundays and focuses on the Christian life of faith. The Liturgical color is green. It is the color of life, growth, and nourishment; the basic color of nature.

participation in the Blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the Body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. Those who celebrate the Sacrament together are expressing unity with both each another and Christ Jesus their Savior. When the faith publically confessed by the participants is unified, what God gives us in the Sacrament is pure Gospel and a truly a blessed communion and union with one another and our God. But if there is disagreement concerning Gods Word underlying a celebration of the Sacrament, its intended purpose is spoiled and those involved are improperly declaring unity where unity does not fully exist. The Lords Supper is truly a most high and intimate expression of unity. Paul writes in I Corinthians 10:16-17: Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a

Welcome in the Name of Christ!

We pray that you enjoy your time with us and that your spirit is enriched as we together sit at the feet of our Savior. Gods richest blessings be on you! Bathrooms are located in the north and south side of the entryway as you go down into the basement. The mens is on the north side and the womens on the south side. A small Nursery with a changing table and rocking chair is in the back of church on the south side; a carpeted play area is found in the basement; and black activity bags are available in the entryway. If you would like talk to Pastor about anything, catch him after worship or give him a call at 507-648-3601 (Cell: 507-276-5225).

Our practice as it involves the Lords Supper is based on a deep reverence for God and His Word; it is based on our profound respect for the purpose of the Sacrament; and it is based on a deep desire to in every way honestly, accurately, and clearly confess all of Gods Word to the world. Therefore, those who are not yet fully united to us are cordially invited and encouraged to speak with Pastor or an Elder so that we may work together for the truth (III John 8); for when spiritual unity is achieved on the basis of Gods Word, outward unity can and will be joyfully celebrated. Those who have declared their unity with us, either by their membership here or by their membership in another congregation with which we are unified, are cordially invited to express that unity at the Lords Table.

First Lesson: Deuteronomy 10:12-22 And now, O Israel, what

does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lords commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. Yet the Lord set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today. Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt. Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. Your forefathers who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

Second Lesson: II Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18 For I am already being

poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that dayand not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing...At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lions mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

er, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is goodexcept God alone. You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother. All these I have kept since I was a boy, he said. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. Jesus looked at him and said, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Those who heard this asked, Who then can be saved? Jesus replied, What is impossible with men is possible with God.

Announcements
New Congregational Facebook Page: The Council has approved the posting of a congregational Facebook Page. The plan for the Page is to use it as an online communications platform for members and friends of the congregation. Sermons, Bulletins, the monthly Newsletter, events, and more can be found there! We are looking for continued feedback on how to make the Page better, so like us and check it out! The web address can be found on separate insert in the bulletin. St. Johns Grade School Singing: On Sunday, November 17th, St. Johns Grade School will be joining us for our worship service. They will sing a number of songs and following the service there will be time for fellowship in the church basement. Ladies Aid Bake Sale: The Ladies Aid will be hosting a Bake Sale in the church basement following the worship service this morning! Families and individuals interested in donating toward the Bake Sale are asked to get in contact with Nancy Kosel or another member of the Aid. There will be no set cost on items on the day of the sale, funds will be gathered via freewill offering. Proceeds will go toward congregational projects. October Voters Meeting: Sunday, October 20th, at 2:00 pm the October Quarterly Meeting was held. Following an opening prayer by Pastor and the Secretarys, Treasurers and Pastors reports the following items were discussed and decided: After hearing and discussing the recommendation of the Tuition Study Committee, the Voters decided to follow the Committees recommendation and set the commitment for the 2013-2014 school year at $3000.00 per student. There are three students attending this year. Last year the commitment was $2500.00 per student. A lighting specialist was out here to church a few days before the meeting to inspect the Sanctuary; he talked with us and took measurements and pictures. He will be writing up an estimate for lights with specific fixture recommendations and costs. This will be brought to the congregation once we have the estimate. After a good amount of discussion it was decided to do both the South Side and East Entry next year. The South Side would include windows, siding, and insulation; the East Entry would involve the East Wall and roof. Harley Johnson has

Kingdom Workers Annual Meeting: Please join Kingdom Workers for their annual meeting and mission update on Sunday, October 27th, at Martin Luther College. It will be held in the cafeteria following the 3:00 pm Reformation Service in the Chapel of the Christ. A complimentary meal will be provided following the meeting. New Sunday Evening Bible Class: Beginning October 6th, we started a new series in the Sunday Evening Bible Class. Over a number of weeks we will be covering the first eight chapters of St. Pauls letter to the Romans. A unique aspect of this class is that we will have a guest lecturer of sorts, Pastor Paul Wendland, who currently serves as President and classroom teacher at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Hospital Visits: If you or a loved one is going to be in the hospital for surgery, tests, etc., please call Pastor Prell and let him know. He will add you to the Prayer Chain (if you wish) so that others can join in prayers for you. This also helps Pastor know who he needs to visit; due to health care regulations concerning privacy, hospitals no longer publish who is in the hospital. Thanks in advance for your help!
