By JOE SHOUSE Correspondent PAULDING Growing up on a farm near small-town Jewell, Jim Stykemain learned the kind of leadership skills that has taken him from the farm land to becoming a successful visionary. Today, his vision and leadership has allowed Stykemain Chevrolet in Paulding to grow into a solid dealership serving northwest Ohio and the surrounding area. Located in downtown Paulding since 2002, Stykemain and his 22 employees have recently made the much-anticipated move to a new, ultramodern facility located on U.S. 127 on the north edge of Paulding. Although the family farm produced hogs along with wheat, corn and beans, Stykemain also cultivated an interest in the automobile. Living on a farm and being a farmer was great and it taught me a lot about business and life in general, said Stykemain. Much of what Jim learned on the farm he has transferred to the business of selling vehicles. An automobile business that started back in the 1930s when his grandfather, Herman Shorty Derrow, established his first dealership in Defiance. Through a series of family decisions over the years, the Stykemain name has become synonymous with the automotive industry in the area and it continues to grow, as witnessed by the new deal-

First of all, we will have over 250 new and used cars on the lot to offer our customers. Anything you need we will have including a state of the art service and paint department that offers the latest and best equipment available, said Stykemain. Other additional perks offered will be a drive-in service bay that allows the individual to drive inside the facility to avoid inclement weather; those with a service appointment can have use of a new loaner car (four will be made available); and free pickup and delivery service within five miles. Over the years we have had some of the best loyal customers you could ask for and we want to continue to offer the kind of services they have come to expect, said Stykemain. Somewhat behind the scene and located in the service department is a piece of equipment that Stykemain is most excited about. We have the latest technology when it comes to wheel alignment. Our new system is called the Hunter HawkEye laser alignment system. It uses a unique combination of adapters and three dimensional targets along with four high resolution cameras for pinpoint accuracy. This system would allow us to do an alignment in the parking lot if needed, said Stykemain. Along with the latest in technology is the ability to service more vehicles in a shorter period of time. We use to have six hoists, but now we have 10, and
that will allow us to have a quicker turn around servicing vehicles, said Stykemain. The new body shop has expanded in size and will allow for painting any size car or truck as well as a semi truck or a large school bus, even a farm tractor. The painting of any vehicle will take place in what is called a down draft paint booth allowing no dirt to enter the painting process and giving the highest quality finish possible. The entire facility is a much better environment for both the employees and the customers, Stykemain said. In making an investment to the community, Stykemain looks at his 22 employees as a major reason for the move. They are the strength of this business. My employees are my friends. We are truly family here and many of them have been here since day one. I couldnt ask for a more loyal group of people, Stykemain said. The expansion has also allowed Jim to hire an additional four people. Paulding is where I want to be and we plan to be here a long time. If Paulding will give us an opportunity to serve them, they will they will see a group of dedicated people ready to go the extra mile to meet their vehicle needs, said Stykemain. Jim and his wife Wendy have three daughters and one son.
