Universiti Malaysia Perlis Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Mekatronik Program Kejuruteraan Mekatronik ENT286/4: Instrumentation & Measurement Assignment

I Question 1) Explain the concept of generalized measurement system. Choose and describe TWO from the following instrumentation and measurement in the general measurement system concept. Do your research, do not copy your friends. (a) Bourdon Tube (b) Thermometer (c) Tachometer (d) Diaphragm (e) Oscilloscope (f) Room temperature using Thermocouple (g) Ultrasonic-based level measurement (h) Illumination (Lux) meter Question 2) Sketch the following amplifier. a. Inverting and its function derivation. b. Non-inverting and its function derivation. c. Differential amplifier d. Voltage follower e. Summing amplifier f. Instrumentation amplifier Question 3) Describe the purpose of the following op-amp, and explain where and how the op-amp can be used? g. Voltage follower h. Summing op-amp Question 4) Figure below shows a one-stage Butterworth RC low pass filter. Computes the RC components that attenuate the noise up to 2%.

Question 5)

Universiti Malaysia Perlis Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Mekatronik Program Kejuruteraan Mekatronik Explain the differences between passive and active filter? Question 6) Do research on dynamic calibration. How does it differ from static calibration? Explain. Question 7) You are going to do some simple measurement as the following: i. Prepare required experiment apparatus as shown in Fig. 1 ii. Roll the marble at the 1.50 meter distance. iii. Record your measurement. iv. Repeat for 10 times keeping with similar rolling speed.

Fig. 1: Rolling marble experiment lay-out

Part 1 (a) Built measurement table and record your measurement. (b) Calculate the mean of rolling time. (c) Calculate the standard deviation. (d) Write its final value. ( time time) Part 2 (a) Calculate the error of each time measurement by using deviations from its mean. (b) Now you have parameter time and its error, by assuming there is no error of the parameter distance, calculate the speed of each measurement. (c) Propagate the error of the parameter speed by using the following function:
______

time distance speed = speed + time distance

(d) Write the final value for the parameter speed.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Mekatronik Program Kejuruteraan Mekatronik Part 3 (a)Derive the formula for Confidence interval estimation of the population mean for small dataset. (b)If we assume the data distribution is Normally Distribute and the data are small dataset, estimate the population mean for parameter speed with 10% significant level. Part 4 (a) Are the relation between speed and time linear? Plot their graph. (b) Prove your answer by applying LSE method with 95% confidence level. Part 5 Discuss on your measurement. Evaluate your findings. Include also on measurement error i.e. what are the errors that might occur in this experiment, the data trustworthiness, any difficulties or resistance, etc etc.
