OVERVIEW
This tool is intended to be used at the early stages of a design to assist in the selection of the appropriate HVAC systems for a building application. It involves setting a Weighting Factor to a series of categories and then allocating a Performance Score to each category. The spread sheet then multiplies each performance score by the weighting factor and presents the totals for each category in tabular and graphical format in a Matrix. The purpose of these weightings is to allow different prioirities to be assigned to the system characterisitics and an overall evaluation for that particular set of priorities obtained. Changes or differences in priorities will affect the performance score by adjusting the weightings
Weighting factors :
Low importance (1) Below average importance (2) Average importance (3) Above average importance (4) Critical importance (5)
Performance scores :
Poor performance (1) Below average performance (2) Average performance (3) Above average performance (4) Excellent performance (5)

CALCULATION WEIGHTINGS
KEY CATEGORY SUB-CATEGORY OBJECTIVE WEIGHTING FACTOR
For services costs only Low maintenance costs over life of facility. Low energy over life of facility. Consider life cycle of HVAC Plant Construction cost for plant rooms, screens, riser space, building height. System design has flexibility to operate different zones of building for different occupancy periods Inherent ability to cope with changes to internal office layout (including cellurisation) System must be capable of meeting expected equipment loads. System must also adapt to lower loads, and higher occupancies if necessary Locate plant where it can easily be accessed with minimum disruption i.e. avoid above and below desks Avoid total dependence on any single item of plant i.e. Plant redundancy Plant appearance to reflect architectural principles Provide systems that require minimal user interface and are not unnecessarily complex Reduce pollutants by displacing at source, or maximising dilution with fresh air Match system noise emission into occupied space with noise level and speech privacy required. Consider energy used in manufacture, in operation, and disposal. System to provide comfort conditions without causing drafts and stuffiness Ability of system to meet design criteria under peak load conditions
