Night of Praise
6:00 p.m. in the Chapel
This special night of praise will feature our Worship Choir and
Orchestra. Invite a friend and join us for this special night of
worship as we present our favorite songs from this past season.
We have a unique need because of the economy and resulting relocation of nine
workers on Saturday evening and eleven on Sunday morning. On August 29th
and 30th, promotion to the next age grade will occur. We desperately need folks
who will minister on a weekly basis in order to open classes for babies through
kindergarten. Please call our Preschool Director, Miss Beverly Day, at the church
office 596-8600 ext. 360.
Miss Henrietta Mears is one of the most famous Sunday School workers in history.
At five, she was led to the Lord by her mother, and at ten she and her little cousin
called themselves, “the willing workers.” She reached out to her friends even
though she was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Even as a child she gave away
Bibles and witnessed on the streets. Most importantly, she asked the Lord to fill
her with His Spirit and use her.
At twelve, Henrietta began to invest her time in teaching “Sunday School” classes.
She continued to invest in others and eventually moved to Hollywood, California
to teach at First Presbyterian Church. Over the years, she became one of God’s
greatest instruments to impact lives, including Billy Graham, Bill Bright (Founder
of Campus Crusade for Christ), Richard Halverson (Chaplain of the U.S. Senate),
and the Hollywood Christian Group (an extensive ministry to those in the movie
industry). She formed Gospel Light Publications, which produced discipleship
literature for world-wide ministry. She was not ordained but anointed and appointed
for service by her Lord for His sheep. Happiness is not in what you get but in what
you give. We are praying that some will heed the call to invest in little “lambs.”
Though Jews brought lambs for sacrifice to the temple, Jesus as the ultimate “Lamb
of God” has died and rose. The animal was an unwilling sacrifice, but you have a
choice. The joy and the impact are worth the sacrifice.
Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night
and Sunday morning worship services. Come and meet Dr. Wicker.
Missions Spotlight
Protected Harbor
Visit Protected Harbor’s mission kiosk this weekend and see the home
God is providing for developmentally disabled adults...His special peo-
ple.
Give a helping hand for the first residence through our “Step Up and
Step Out” fundraiser. You can be a part of His plans by purchasing an
engraved brick which will form the floor of the home’s lanai. The pav-
ers will be permanent memorials to you, your loved ones, a special
occasion, or a meaningful scripture reference. Samples of the pavers
can be seen at Protected Harbor’s kiosk this weekend. Just Step Up
and Step Out.
Drama auditions for the 2009 Living Christmas Trees are coming
in August. You may pick up your packet this weekend in the
Commons. For more details, please call the music office at 596-
8600 x226. All ages are needed.

August 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Commons
“Five Conversations You Must Have With Your
Daughter” by Vicki Courtney
This brand-new book has been selected to help moms who are
desperately trying to talk with their daughters about sensitive
issues in a godly way. It will cause you to focus on helping your
daughters understand that they are more than what people see on
the outside and they do not need to grow up so fast. You will learn
how to dare your daughter to be virtuous.
Janet is happy to announce that Karen Head will be joining her
for the last session of our Reading Club on August 25. We have
added the book “Your Boy: Raising a Godly Son in an Ungodly
World” also by Vicki Courtney. This book will do for moms
of boys what the other book “Five Conversations You Must
Have With Your Daughter” will accomplish for moms of girls.
Because both their needs are unique, we will discuss these books
in separate groups that night. As you parent and guide a young boy to become
a young godly man, this additional book will encourage you, challenge you,
and help your son avoid the pitfalls of cultural pressures. See the Lighthouse
Bookstore to purchase this book, and add it to your summer reading schedule.
