This weekend, we remember those who gave their lives to ensure the freedoms and blessings that we appreciate as Americans.

Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you!

Experiencing

GOD

Beginning Wednesday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center, Mens Ministry and Womens Ministry will meet together around tables organized by Bible and Life Group. Sign-up for this study in your Bible and Life Group. Workbooks are now on sale in the Lighthouse Bookstore.

Popcorn Testimonies
The phrase popcorn testimonies refers to a quick word from an individual. It is like the old adage: Stand up, speak up, shut up! Here are some popcorn thoughts. We were thrilled to have the Commencement Exercise for our first graduating High School class from First Baptist Academy on May 15. Nine young people received their diplomas and boldly stepped toward a new frontier. I thank our School Administrator, Rev. Tom Rider, Joel Staggers, and our faculty for preparing the next generation to be warriors of the Christian worldview. I am preaching three times for Founders Week at Word of Life in Schroon Lake, New York this weekend. You have perhaps heard of the founders, Jack Wyrtzen and Harry Bollback. Our Associate Pastor in Evangelism and Discipleship, Greg Davidson, will be preaching in my place here, and I will be back in the pulpit next weekend. Pray for this wonderful missions and training ministry. I am grateful for the sweet spirit of those who are willing to move from the 11:00 worship time to our summer schedule of one Sunday morning worship service at 9:30. I look forward to the synergy and unity of being together. The huge decrease in attendance from June September has great impact particularly on the 11:00 time, the smallest of the three worship times. I am also grateful for how our teachers in the Bible and Life ministry are cooperating and ministering to their classes. We are beginning our new Wednesday program on June 3 with combined adults in the north side of the worship center. As we gather around tables, we will hear outstanding testimonies, music, and teaching about Experiencing God. This transformational study has been one of the philosophical foundations of our ministry for these last 17 years. You will receive tremendous help in discovering the will of God, walking in faith and obedience, and learn to discern where God is at work and then join Him. We are finalizing our budget preparations for the new fiscal year beginning in July. We will be sharing a copy of the budget and then making a presentation, seeking to be good stewards of Gods money as we adjust to the economic realities. Doug Pigg, Conard Wrightsman, and all of our staff have worked hard with the Finance Committee to bring this to your attention. Considering the high impact of the recession, our church has done remarkably well these last two years. We believe that where God guides He provides and that the bottom line is always His good, acceptable, and perfect will (Romans 12:2). I hope you were able to swallow and digest my popcorn!

There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and the 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning services. Come and meet Dr. Wicker.

Association of Baptist for World Evangelism

We started our missions ministry with ABWE in 1999. It all started when Bill went on a missions trip to Gambia West Africa. It was during that trip that God revealed to Bill that he could use his gifts and talents to serve Him. Since 1999, God has led us to South Africa where we assisted with the building of four churches in Durban, Richards Bay, Amanzimtoti and Cape Town. We further assisted around the world on various construction projects such as schools, hospitals, missionary housing, camps and various other Christian related facilities. These travels took us to West Africa, Ghana, Togo and the Gambia. Then, we traveled to Bangladesh, South America, the Philippines and Katrina relief in Mississippi. Ginny has used her gifts and talents in teaching ladies bible studies, kids Sunday schools, hosting and feeding volunteers, visiting people in hospitals, and assisting the missionaries where we are with whatever tasks they desire her to do.

Do you want to help in times of disaster with Florida Disaster Relief? Do you want to be part of First Baptists Disaster Response Team? FEMA and Emergency Management officials now require all volunteers to be credentialed before they will be allowed to work in a disaster area. Training is being offered to meet those requirements on May 30 at Pines Baptist Church in Pembroke Pines, FL. If you would like to go, or for more details, call David Gallaway at 597-0361, Ed Heim at 821-9173, or Jim Hill at 596-8600 x242. Our new work ministry is up and running. As we receive help wanted information from our church membership, we will post those positions on this site. If you are hiring, or know of someplace that is hiring, please email rwright@fbcn.org with details so that we may post that information too. The Marriage Savers program will help you have a healthy marriage and will enhance your relationship. It is a requirement here at FBCN and involves a premarital inventory and a mentor couple who will meet with you for six sessions.
