POSITION POSTING NOTICE

Position Title: Executive Director


Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience, medical, paid
vacation, leave early on Shabbat
Reports To: Executive Committee, Board of Directors

Position Focus: Responsible for the day to day operations of the organization. Manage
and assist with electronic communications to membership (e.g. website, e-newsletters,
etc.), event planning, development and administrative duties.

• To advance equality and opportunity for all women and men in our pluralistic
democracy.
• To protect the Constitutional liberties and civil rights of Jews, other
minorities, and the vulnerable in our society.
• To secure for ourselves and society the benefits of Jewish learning and
culture.
• To carry out the goal of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world.

Primary Responsibilities:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Assist in planning six to eight events and/or programs per year.


• Community organizing and active participation in diverse coalitions. Current
and potential partners include, but are not limited to, Jewish communities, other
faiths, civil rights and other policy advocates.
• Conduct outreach and raise the visibility of the organization. Participate in
community meetings, attend events and forums.
• Provide support to issue-focused policy centers.
• Assist and maintain external communications which includes a vibrant website
and technical assistance for the bi-weekly e-newsletter. Research and find
topics and articles for the e-newsletter.
• Manage fundraising efforts with support from the Development Committee.
Fundraising includes an Annual Social Justice Award reception, individual
giving, online giving and possibly limited grant writing.
• Maintain accurate financial records and databases and perform administrative
duties as needed by the President and other officers.
• Attend all Board meetings and most Executive Committee meetings; record
minutes.
• Solicit and manage volunteers when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree with three (3) to five (5) years of work experience preferred;
• Experience in policy advocacy and/or community organizing
• Understanding of the political process
• Demonstrated participation in coalitions
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Familiarity with html or the ability to learn it
• Nonprofit experience a plus
• Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
• Possess excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
• Dynamic, self motivated and forward thinking

Organizational Background:

A group of Jewish activists in Philadelphia recognized a voice that was not being heard.
That is the voice of Jews who care about their community and the rest of the world, and
want to participate in decisions made about the conduct of local, national and
international affairs. Between April and December 2003, a discussion group on the issues
that were missing became an organization for change. Today, with a large and influential
Board, JSPAN invites everyone to help make progressive principles drawn from Jewish
teachings heard.
