Salat Al-Witr - How To Perform The Three Rakats Odd-Numbered Prayer

Firstly, we state our intention (niyyah) in our hearts or audibly that we are going to perform the three rakats of the The Odd-Numbered (witr) prayer by saying "I intend to performthe three rakats of the The OddNumbered (witr) prayer for the consent of Allah". After making the niyyah, we raise our hands up to our ears in a way the palms might be facing Qiblah (Kaaba direction) and the the thumbs touching the ear lobes. While raising your hands in the manner stated above, we say takbir ALLAHU AKBAR" (Allah is the greatest). Females raise their hands up to their shoulders.

Then using the thumb and the little finger of your right hand, we make a circle round the wrist of your left hand and place both hands slightly below the navel. Females hold their hands on the chest; they should simply place the palm of their right hand on the back of the left forehand. After that, we start to recite first " Subhanaka"; after Subhanaka we say:"Audhu billahi min-ash-shayta -nir-rajeem Bismillah-ir-Rahman-irraheem" and recite Surah Al Fatiha. Then we recite some other surah.

Upon finishing the recitation, while saying the takber we go to ruku, bend the upper part of your body up to a point where the neck and back nearly level up. Place both hands on your knees on a way that fingers on both hands stay open. Stay in ruku', at least for a time during which "Subhana Rabb'i-y-alAdhiym could be said three times calmly and comfortably.

Then we return to the standing position saying " Sami Allahu li-man hamidah ". We stand still for a moment and say: " Rabb'ana lakal hamd "

Then we go to prostration (sajdah) by saying "Allahu Akbar". The knees are rested on the floor, the chest should then be lowered down. After having rested your knees on the floor, place your hands first, then the tip of the nose, then the forehead. In sajdah we say three times "Subhanarabb'iy-al-A 'l ".

Then we rise and sit from the first sajdah by saying Allahu Akbar (Both hands should be placed on the thighs.) and then we go for the second 'Sajdah' by saying" Allahu Akbar " again.

And we say three times "Subhanarabb'iy-al-A 'l " again of the second sajdah.

Then we rise back from sajdah to the standing position by saying: "Allahu Akbar". We clasp our hands, thus the second rakat starts. We say "Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-raheem"and recite the Fatiha. Then we recite some other surah. After this we go to ruku again.
