Passage 2
Passage for question nos. 4 6

Plastics are synthetic polymers. The arrangement of the individual units (monomers)
may be linear or cross linked. Cross linked polymers have side chains or cross links,
which connect different polymer chains. Linear or lightly cross linked polymers are called
thermoplastics which can be melted by heating and thereafter moulded into desired shapes.
This is a reversible process and a thermoplastic can be reheated and remoulded, PVC, LDPE,
styrene-butadine, etc., are examples of thermoplastics. Heavy cross linked plastics are called
thermosetting plastics which cant be remoulded after reheating. Bakelite, melamine, duroplast,
urea formaldehyde foam, polyamides, etc, are thermosetting plastics. The thermosetting plastics
are stronger due to three dimensional cross-linked structure. They are used for high
temperature application. Unlike thermoplastic, they strengthen when heated. Thermoplastics are
hardened when cooled. Thermosetting polymers form molecules with larger molecular weight
but they are brittle in spite of being very hard. Thermoplastics are low melting as compared to
thermosetting plastics, but they melt to liquid and can be frozen to elastic materials.

Answer the following questions on the basis of above write up.

4. Which of the following plastic can display the result of reversible heat treatment?
(A) Bakelite (B) PVC
(C) Melamine (D) All are correct

A ball kept on a wall is pushed horizontally with
certain velocity and allowed to move under gravity. Such a
motion is two-dimensional motion with ball covering
displacements in both x and y-directions. But both the x & y
direction motions are independent of each other. Hence,
motion in x-direction can be considered as similar to straight
line motion with no acceleration. Motion in y-direction can be
considered as free fall under gravity.
In the figure shown, ball is pushed horizontally from a
height of 19.6 m, with initial velocity as 10 m/s

Passage 5
Passage for question nos. 15 19

The physical as well as chemical properties of metals are due to the presence of loosely
hold or free electrons. The movement of such electrons throughout the metal explain some of
the physical properties. Transfer or sharing of such electrons explain the chemical properties.
X, Y and Z are three non transition metals which display all the physical properties like
conductivity, malleability, ductility etc. Metals X and Y liberate hydrogen gas when reacts with
water and dilute HCl. Metal Z cannot liberate H
2
gas either from water or from HCl. Y and Z
are stable in air whereas X catches fire when exposed to air. When Z is exposed to air for
some days, a green residue is deposited on its surface. The residue contains the hydroxide and
carbonate salts of metal Z.

Answer the following questions on the basis of above write up.

15. Which of the following metal should be stored under Kerosene?
(A) X (B) Y
(C) Z (D) Both X and Y
